Lock S-Foils in Attack Position

I flew a version of this in a local tournament. Went 3 and 0. It’s not a super complicated idea. Just lots of health and attack dice. You use your Yions to mess with people’s position. Leia gives you maneuverability options. Your X-Wings are your flankers. Which is the great part of the list, you really don’t need to keep it together. Joust them or break up and try for an envelopment, you lose nothing. The biggest weakness is, with any low Init list, aces outmaneuvering you. Fortunately, you do have some turrets to cover multiple arcs. You can also spread yourself out so that there is no completely safe place for an ace to go.

Feeling pretty confident with it I took it to a Hyperspace Trial. Went 4 and 2. Despite the record, it wasn’t a failing of the list. I very easily could have been undefeated with this list. The first loss was against five TIE/sf’s with FCS and Fanatical. It went to time and on the last round he managed to kill my U-Wing with a range 3 attack that I whiffed and I missed getting half points on one of his sf’s by one shield. Lost of 10pts. Very close game.

The second loss I deserved to lose because I’m an idiot. I jousted an Inferno swarm. Why? See the aforementioned idiot. It was round four and I had just lost to the sf’s and was districted by that some. I’ve beaten this exact list before. I set up across from him, trying to psyche him out but then, instead of turning round 1, I rush him. Due to a rock placement I can’t turn round two. So we engage range 2. And my dice punish me for it. I lose an X-wing and a half and do exactly zero damage in return. Statistically, four three dice attacks against a target with three defense dice and a single focus should have taken some damage. But, after several grueling rounds, I did manage to kill Howlrunner when he couldn’t use Iden. So moral victory?

It was a fun tournament and the list performed well even despite my flying. Still made top 16 and was close enough to the cut that, even still losing the same matches, if I had taken out just a few more TIE’s I might have made the cut.  But such is X-wing.

Variations

There’s a couple of choices you can make with the spare point plus the U-Wing’s second crew slot.  Lando is fun and gives the U-Wing some token stacking potential.  Upgrading to Heff Tober is an option as well if you want to use him as a blocker. Or going Baze for the same reason.

The X-Wing’s are also interchangeable with B-Wings now that they are Hyperspace legal. I prefer the X’s because they’re better able to be used as flankers. But B-Wings have a little more overall health, a lot more shields and can be very dangerous when they get in close. Though, that is also their weakness. The X-Wing’s can bail out with a boost if they need too. The B-Wings can be trapped, unable to turn around.
