The Workshop: Profiles in Courage: Orson Krennic

Greetings, Citizen [your name here]. It has come to our attention that you have seen some recent footage that seeks to paint the Galactic Empire in an unfavorable light. We must insist that this is nothing more than base propaganda truth being disseminated by the terrorists heroes known as The Alliance to Restore the Republic. This group has made it known that they do not agree with many of Emperor Palpatine’s policies and methods of rule and have made continuous attempts at rebelling and undermining his rightful rule of the galaxy. We are aware of the nature of his slanderous and seditious holofilm that seeks to reveal Imperial “secrets.”

We strive for complete transparency in all of our governing practices. We can assure you that all of the information that you need to do your jobs and live your lives is given to you in a timely manner. If you are concerned that there are secrets the Empire is keeping from you, we would first encourage you to take a look at yourself and think about what you must be hiding to distrust your government to such a degree. If that doesn’t put your concerns to rest, then we would encourage you to write your representative in the Imperial Senate. Act quickly.

To combat the effects of this Rebel propaganda information campaign, we have replaced the results of your holonet search with the latest piece in an ongoing series highlighting important figures within the Empire. Hopefully reading about the great men than serve the Empire will put any final concerns you have to bed. Thank you for your continued loyal support of the Galactic Empire. Remember – it’s not only appreciated. It’s required.

Orson Krennic

krennicHis is a name that you may not recognize. And if you do recognize it, it is probably not for the proper reasons. Given recent events, we could think of no one better to profile this month than the very man who helped shape the future of the Empire’s greatest achievement since ending the Clone Wars – the Death Star.

Not much is known of Krennic’s childhood and early life. At some point he was chosen to participate in the Republic Futures Program. While not a model student by any definition of the phrase, he did prove an apt enough pupil to join the Republic Corps of Engineers after graduation. Here, he served the Republic admirably through the Clone Wars.

It was during this time that his role in the future of the Empire was firmly cemented, joining the Republic Special Weapons Group of the Strategic Advisory Cell. He worked closely with Vice Chair Mas Amedda during the war to stay ahead of the Confederacy of Independent Systems in terms of weapon development. There is no telling how many of us owe our lives and continued existence to his dedicated work within the group, and he was awarded the rank of Lieutenant Commander before the war’s end due to his contributions.

Orson Krennic continued to serve in his capacity as engineer after the Republic was reorganized into the Galactic Empire, working on several high profile assignments such as Project [REDACTED]. Of course we know now that these various projects all served the ultimate goal of the completion of the Death Star, the greatest triumph of the Galactic Empire, and indeed one of the most impressive pieces of engineering ever conceived and developed. His work on the project has secured the peace, prosperity, and stability of the Empire for generations to come. He was promoted to Commander for his contributions in realizing this marvelous feat of engineering. With the completion of this project, he helped the Empire to truly showing the universe what we are capable of, and what lies in store for those that would stand against the rightful rule of the Emperor.

We know that you have enjoyed this piece and as such you have been subscribed to the Empire’s Profiles in Courage series. Every month you will be receiving details about another serviceman or woman who has proven their worth time and again to the Galactic Empire. Thank you again for using the services of the Imperial HoloNet. We regret to inform you that analysis of your previous search shows several terms such as “Death Star technical readout” and “exhaust port” that have been blacklisted for reasons of sedition and treason and as such, we are unable to display the results. Your location has been logged and sent to Imperial Intelligence for analysis about how to provide you with better service in the future. Have a wonderful day.

Equipment: blaster pistol (Ranged [Light]; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Medium]; Stun setting), white imperial military uniform with capelet, datapad.

Design Notes: Krennic is not a combatant. While referenced as having been a “good soldier” and standing up to Galen Erso’s schoolyard bullies, we are shown time and again in Catalyst that his true strength lies in his ability to deceive and manipulate everyone around him. He always seems to be several steps ahead of those who are unwittingly doing his bidding and even when his plans are disrupted, he has contingencies in place to make sure that the end result is the same, or at least something that he can spin to his benefit. He is absolutely unrelenting when it comes to pursuing a goal and getting what he wants. That combined with the privileges of rank and the resources afforded to him as a Commander in the Imperial Navy make him a dangerous opponent for anyone that chooses to stand in the way of his goals of upward mobility.
