HoloNet Uplink – Walker Ace

Welcome to the HoloNet Uplink, citizen. This series focuses on Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars Roleplaying Game, with content aimed mostly at the Gamemaster. Threats, adventure seeds, rules supplements, and more are all to come for those who access The HoloNet Uplink.

Maybe it was Star Wars: Legion announcing a downed AT-ST product. Maybe it was a case of catching sight of an AT-RT or AT-AT on a YouTube recommended video, just out of the corner of my eye. Maybe its divine inspiration. For whatever reason I found myself asking, if there are starfighter aces, what about walkers? Well, even if there aren’t any, there are now.

Although I’m rockin’ the Imperial aesthetic for the accompanying images, rest assured you can roll these into Rebel, Republic, or whatever you want NPCs. I promise no one will know.

Whether nimble scouts or lumbering titans, walkers are common sight across the galaxy’s battlefields. Although most soldiers think only of the war machine’s own capabilities, such at the incredible mobility of the AT-RT or the nigh-impenetrable armor of the AT-AT, such walkers are merely lifeless equipment with skilled hands to operate them. Driving a walker is no simple task, meaning even an average walker jockey is a skilled operator, but rising a clear cut above the rest are a rare breed of walker aces.

Whether seasoned veteran or gifted novice, walker aces operate their machines as a near-extension of their own bodies. Absolute knowledge of their walker and a skilled touch allow these aces to take their vehicles into seemingly impassable terrain, while their keen sight and practiced aim make them deadly behind the weapons of any craft. Some walker aces combine these skills to great advantage, hiding their vehicles in unexpected locations and waiting to spring a trap. Known as bushwhackers, this type of ace thrives behind the controls of a scout walker. Drivers of more lumbering vehicles use their walker’s size and power to fullest extend, blasting away with heavy weapons and crushing survivors under their vehicle’s durasteel feet.
