HoloNet Uplink – Sabacc Players and Therm Scissorpunch (Solo Content)

Welcome to the HoloNet Uplink, citizen. This series focuses on Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars Roleplaying Game, with content aimed mostly at the Gamemaster. Threats, adventure seeds, rules supplements, and more are all to come for those who access The HoloNet Uplink.

My run of Solo content continues, and with the release of last week’s take on the Cloud-Riders and their swoops we are certainly keeping the underworld theme going. From high-risk raiding to high-stakes gambling, this week I provide entries for both sabacc player NPCs in general, and the hilariously named Therm Scissorpunch.

While there is yet more content to mine from Solo, I feel we may be coming to the end. I’ve got a few more ideas for such posts left, but if there is anything you want to see from the movie please send me your requests in the comments below!

Sabacc Player [Rival]

Possessing enough skill to beat the odds in the long run is rare among gamblers, but especially true for a game as random as sabacc. Whether through dice as in Corellian Spike, or by the shifting cards themselves in the Core Worlds, the element of chance deters many from high stakes sabacc play. Those who do brave the table for game after game bring steely nerves, a keen eye for tells, and a strategic intuition for when to hold or fold. Almost every casino hosts professional players, the same holding true for gambling holes and card sharks, and the question must be asked: game after game, how can they get ahead? There answer is a very particular set of skills combined with the confidence to take prudent risks.

Therm Scissorpunch [Rival]

An allegedly notorious sabacc player known to frequent the Vandor’s Fort Ypso Lodge, this Nephran gambler relies on intimidation to unbalance his opponents. He demands other patrons refer to him as Therm Scissorpunch. Whether this nickname was earned, or self-invented, is unknown. Veracity aside, the nickname refers to the very real shank implanted in Therm’s left claw.
