Finder’s Archive: Jason Vorhees

Hello everyone, and welcome once more to the Finder’s Archives.

Halloween IS upon us, and since my columns normally go out on a Friday, I figured I’d get in slightly ahead of the action this time.

Last year, we took a look at Pennywise the Clown, so I thought it would be interesting to present another classic monster for this. This time around we’ll go for Jason Vorhees. So, if you ever wanted Mr. Vorhees in your games, now is your chance. Like Pennywise last year, I’m keeping this at a CR 10, so that you get a better chance of using him in your games.

Our Jason will be an undead since he’s nigh-on indestructible, but I did consider making him a construct for a little while. That didn’t feel right for him though, so without further ado, here you go.

===== Special Abilities =====

Spirit of Vengeance (Su) Jason can never truly die. If he is successfully killed, he rises again in a year, unless a miracle or wish spell is used to stop him from returning to life. When he rises, he will seek out his original slayer once more, gaining the ability to case discern location once per day. Once the original slayer is killed, Jason loses this ability once more.

Water Weakness (Su) If Jason is fully submerged in at least 3 feet of water, he becomes inert, until the water level above him falls below 3 feet once more. While inert, Jason floats exactly 4 feet below the water level, regardless of the actual depth of the water, and cannot be submerged further. During this time, currents and wind can move him about as normal.

Description
Jason is an indestructible force of nature, vengeance given form. Originally a young boy who drowned in a lake, his anger and rage at being denied life caused him to not only grow but to gain near-immortality. Now, whenever someone comes within range of his thoughtsense, who is feeling happiness or a sense of accomplishment, Jason comes alive and slaughters the culprit(s). Once they have been killed, he returns to his lair once more, waiting for his next victim. Only occasionally does a victim succeed in fending off Jason, usually by tricking him into the water. But eventually, the water levels always drop, even if takes generations and Jason reanimates once more.

I hope you all have fun with Jason. 😉

40 years old, and a gamer since I was 13. These days I freelance as a writer for various companies (currently Fat Goblin Games, Flaming Crab Games, Outland Entertainment, Paizo, Raging Swan Games, Rusted Iron Games, and Zenith Games), I've dipped my hands into all sorts of games, but my current "go-to" games are Pathfinder 2, Dungeon Crawl Classics and SLA Industries. Unfortunately, while wargaming used to be a big hobby, with wife, dog and daughter came less time.
