Astral Projections – Seskyra Rebels 3: Sorl Argenta, SpecOps Leader

Recently, I gave you a tour of the planet Seskyra. There are three Rebel operatives who appear in the shadows of the artwork and this week I introduce you to the third and final member. These are not PCs from my Roke Squad campaign; these brand new PCs were inspired by the art, and are usable in any AoR (or Resistance) campaign.

Design Notes: As usual, I include both a starting (110 XP) version and one with a little experience (+30 earned XP), which I think is more fun to play and not overwhelming for a new player. This is one of the few characters I have done for the Commander spec and I like the way it came out. Since I was using an upper class background, I opted for Charm and Core Worlds as Human bonus skills, and bought up Leadership over Warfare. I took Ranged (light) 2 as a nod to the EU tradition that hunting was a popular Alderaanian hobby.

For backstory inspiration, I used a combination of using the Motivation and Duty tables–from several books in the Star Wars lines–and talking with one of my gaming pals. Feel free to change equipment to fit the mission profile and player preferences. Duty is -5/+1,000 credits.

Backstory: Sorl’s family were well-to-do Alderaanian merchants and importers, going back at least 3 centuries. He wasn’t interested in the family businesses, however. Sorl did enjoy holos and holo-novels about warriors of millennia past, and like many kids, imagined himself as one of those heroes. He also excelled at hunting, target shooting, and similar activities, popular hobbies among Alderaan’s upper and noble classes. In his late teens, he began to study history and philosphy at Aldera University, and his family hoped that the university would help him find something he was interested in.

Sorl did. In spite of the planet’s official stances of pacifism and loyalty to the Empire, many students and professors alike were unhappy over the regime’s less palatable policies. This sense of justice denied combined with his childhood fantasies of martial fame and glory, fed Sorl’s interest in action far beyond the royally-sanctioned “mercy missions.”

Sorl and several like-minded students who went on one of the mercy missions as part of an internship didn’t return home afterwards. Instead, they stayed behind to fight with a local cell they ran into. Sorl’s natural leadership talents and ambition made him the leader of a new cell on another planet in that system. But it was still more about glory for the young man. Until the nightmare day when his planet and his family were destroyed by Tarkin and his Death Star. THEN, Sorl realized how little fame and glory were worth. He, and his fellow Rebels cannot bring the Alderaanians, Jedhans and others back to life. But they WILL bring justice down on the Emperor and his minions.
