Astral Holiday Special #2 – The 2-1B Goes Cyberpunk! (Cyberpunk RED gear)

© 2019 CD Projekt RED

Welcome to the second 2021 Holiday Special from Astral Projections. My old friend the 2-1B has popped in for a holiday visit, and we’ve been catching up. What’s the droid been doing in its retirement? Cyberpunk reading and gaming. Don’t act surprised, that droid’s been doing cyber prosthetics for years. Remember? The meddroid and I have some new gear for your Cyberpunk RED game, which we found on a foray into a recent Night Market.

Surgery-glove: A surgical tool favored by some surgeons and ripperdocs. It combines several surgical instruments into one gauntlet, assisting user during medical procedures, including cyberware installations, requiring the Surgery Skill. User adds +2 to their Surgery Skill. It is very uncomfortable when worn for long periods of time, and some practitioners use local anesthetics when operating with the Surgery-glove. Any options stored in a Cyberarm or meat arm the Surgery-glove is being worn over are inaccessible while the Surgery-glove is being worn. Cost: 1,000 EBs (V. Expensive)

Surgery-glove: Cyberarm Option. A surgical tool favored by some surgeons and ripperdocs. It combines several surgical instruments, assisting user during medical procedures, including cyberware installations, requiring the Surgery Skill. User adds +2 to their Surgery Skill. Requires a Cyberarm and takes 2 option slots. Multiple installations of this option provide user no additional benefit. Install: Clinic. Cost: 500 EBs (Expensive). Humanity Loss: 7 (2d6).

Kiroshi Licensed Shift Tacts: Fashionware. Lenses implanted into the eye which make it appear to casual observation to be a Cybereye. Close examination by a Medtech or a character trained in Cybertech will reveal the user does not have cyberoptics. These are not temperature-sensitive or hormone-reactant. Only this single choice of color and pattern can be made but the user can deactivate the color change at any time desired without an action. Install: Mall. Cost: 100 EB (Premium). Humanity Loss: 0 (N/A).

Design & Play Notes: I’ve been fascinated by Vicktor Vektor’s unique all-in-one (or close to it) surgical tool since I started watching some of the YouTube gameplay videos for Cyberpunk 2077. It’s so cool, although the first-person view of it going toward V’s eyes is scary. So of course I made Cyberpunk RED stats. The +2 bonus to Surgery checks is the same bonus the official Medscanner (pp. 351, 354, and 365, core book) applies to Paramedic and First Aid and the prices are the same. A Cyberarm version was the logical next step. Note that since a Cyberarm has four option slots it is possible to pair this option with the Medscanner option.

The Licensed Shift Tacts came about from the Cyberpunk game I’ve been playing in. I wanted something a little different and talked to my GM about Shift Tacts that would make my PC look like she had Cybereyes installed. Just for fun, and maybe to make IDing her when she goes on gigs a bit harder. It was easy to install herself, since Cyberware that gives Mall as install type can be done on oneself. (p. 326). Saying they were licensed by Kiroshi was a nice touch, but they are available for other licensed product lines as well. (2-1B and I would be surprised if there weren’t several official Segotari Elflines Online Elf-eyes patterns for example.) The GM may decide to add a small surcharge to licensed designs so the maker doesn’t lose any profit by having to pay lisense fee.

The Humanity Loss (HL) entry for each item uses the core book format. A set number of HL at character creation, with the dice roll for in-game installs given in parentheses.

Since these are light on mechanics, they should be very easy to import into the earlier version of the game, particularly the classic Cyberpunk 2020.
