The jolly season of 2018 is almost upon us, and it’s time for us to give that geek in our life a present. But what to give them? I\u2019ve raved about this game since the beginning of this blog. Published by Greater Than Games this card game lets 2-5 players take on the role of superheroes in an attempt to thwart a dastardly villain using a unique deck of cards. It\u2019s cooperative, with the villain deck playing itself each turn and resolving effects against the heroes. More importantly, the game line finally ended with the release of the Oblivaeon expansion. Additionally, there are multiple electronic versions of the game, both iOS, Android, and on Steam allowing for a single player experience of the game.<\/p>\n

\"\"2:\u00a0<\/strong><\/a>Star Realms<\/b>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0(Recommended by:\u00a0Wayne Basta)<\/a><\/p>\n

For a card game, I actually recommend the computer version of Star Realms. I picked this up on a Steam sale one time and it’s quite a bit of fun. Games go quickly and you don’t have to worry about shuffling or tracking damage or anything. Or missing a trigger, which is quite easy to do. Plus, you can play against the computer. You play the role of a space fleet commander and you slowly build up a fleet (deck) of starships that you use to defeat your opponent. There are a lot of expansions to the game which add new mechanics and cards. That’s the other advantage of the Steam version, you can pick up the expansions and they’ll include the competitive reward cards which you can’t get so easily for the physical version.<\/div>\n

\"\"<\/a>3: Octopath Traveler for Nintendo Switch<\/a><\/b> (Recommended by:\u00a0Linda Whitson)<\/a><\/b><\/div>\n

Octopath Traveler is a fantasy RPG where you get to play through the stories of 4 male and 4 female PCs, in any order. Other PCs will make up your party, so you have the common video RPG arrangement of a PC and several “NPCs.” The stories, 4 chapters per character, are very good and engaging, and the controls are easy, as you’d expect from the Switch. The graphics are a charming fusion of vintage Super NES sprites and modern 3D art tech. Parental Guidance: (US) ESRB Rating is Teen. Several PCs have stories that get pretty dark and one has some sexual content (dialog only).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
