Avadrie Alateen

Avadrie Alateen by AlphaAnt

Avadrie was born into money, but that money had never interested her.  Her mother was a Senator for the world of Mirial, and the young Mirialan was dragged all over the galaxy on official Senate business.  The whole idea of politics and politicking made Avadrie bored and restless.  As soon as she was able, she escaped.  She signed onto the crew of a “spice freighter” under a false name Avadrie Alateen at the age of 17.  By 24 she had become a fairly accomplished smuggler and had gained her own ship due to a high rate of attrition in the field.

Avadrie was on a supply mission to Malachor V to supply the fleet of the Jedi Exile when the Mandalorians attacked.  When the Exile set off the Mass Shadow Generator, Avadrie’s freighter was set upon by several Mandalorians riding Basilisk War Droids.  They managed to board her ship, subjugate her and kill her entire crew.  They then jumped into hyperspace on a course that took them to the Unknown Regions.  When they reached the Unknown Regions, Avadrie was placed in an escape pod and jettisoned so that the Mandalorians could have some target practice with their stolen vessel.  They never got that far.  Just as they were prepping to fire their first round, the remnants of Revan’s fleet dropped out of hyperspace.  The Mandalorians set the freighter into a collision course with Revan’s flagship, but was shot out of the sky almost immediately.

Avadrie was picked up a short time later by one of the cruisers and placed in the cruiser’s brig.  She petitioned her jailers to let her loose, to tell her what was going on, to tell her why they hadn’t returned to Republic space, to no avail.  Finally, she was visited by the ship’s Executive Officer.  He let her out, explaining to her that they had to make sure she wasn’t one of the Mandalorians trying to infiltrate the fleet.  He also explained that they were under orders from General Revan to carry out a specific set of orders.  Avadrie was given a choice: join the crew of one of the ships, or stay in the brig, to eventually be dropped on an hospitable planet.  Avadrie chose to stay, and was placed in a pilot position for a smaller supply vessel.

Time passed, and Avadrie went from resentful to restless.  She was one of the first in the fleet to bring up returning to Republic Space to find out what happened to Revan.  After several years she was able to convince the right people of the same, and finally an expedition was created to do just that.  By then Avadrie was again captain of her own vessel, so her ship was one of the ones to carry the 66 people back to the Core Worlds.

Upon arriving in Republic Space, her vessel was almost immediately fired upon Coruscant’s planetary defense without even being hailed.  She ordered an immediately retreat with the other vessels, and they were able to escape unscathed.  They tapped into the Holonet, where they were able to discover the reason they were fired upon: the fate of Revan.  When he returned as a Sith Lord, the ships among his fleet were put on the “shoot first” list, and had never been removed.  The small group of ships headed for Nal Hutta, where Avadrie traded in her freighter for ownership of a small bar on Nal Hutta.  She told all of the passengers that they could all reach her there, and they dispersed, discretely booking passage to other locales from there.

From then on, Avadrie’s bar served as the communications hub for the rest of the group.  When one member needed to contact another, they did it through Avadrie.  This played a key role in the formation of the Order of 66, as all plans were coordinated through her bar, and when face-to-face meetings were held, they were done so in her establishment.  This made the restless Avadrie content, as she was getting on in years, and being at the core of the Order without having to play a leadership role in it sated her wanderlust.  She died a couple decades later, but her legacy lived on, as her bar was passed on to her daughter, who maintained its role as the meeting place for the Order, and it stayed that way until many years later.
