Tue, 26 Jan 2010 07:07:01 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0 No Sale Here http://www.d20radio.com/theholocron/?p=654 http://www.d20radio.com/theholocron/?p=654#comments Wed, 30 Sep 2009 05:43:08 +0000 GM Dave http://www.d20radio.com/theholocron/?p=654 Yet again, Bioware provides us news that is not news.  Back in October, A YEAR AGO!  We all signed up for forum access and guess what?  There was the little thingy there to say yes, I want to be a tester.  Miss it you did?  Shame on you!  During E3 we even had a bioware meatbag come up and say “we have 25000 people signed up for beta” and everyone said “WAIT!” only to find out he meant that if you signed up for the forum and checked the box, you were signed up for the beta.

So, Bioware, the master of new old rebaked news that makes us think that there is new news that is really just rehashed space junk, color me not sold.  I am waiting for a date, a first wave confirmation, or something a little more tangible.  Otherwise, you just put a new dress on an ugly girl and sent her to the dance hoping to get lucky.

Besides my new graphics card nuking on me recently, the beta signup for SWTOR gives me a touch of fear. Fear you say? Well yes, because this is one of the ‘warning signs’ of a rushed development cycle.

I could be wrong. I pray I’m wrong! But EA may be trying to get a live beta running ASAP inorder to generate the press. Historically a long through beta has been good for quality but bad for sustained excitement.

By the time WOW dropped it’s beta the game had already been in 4+ years of quiet development from Blizzard. SWTOR has had 2-3? of work so far? And having the beta means word of mouth about issues and content of the game will leak out, NDA or no. The Beta appears to be phased, which is good, but just how long is going to be this cycle? Just how much content have they finished?

Time will tell.
