Background: Chaa’rin was never quite like the other Wookiee cubs growing up. Where they were loud and boisterous he was quiet and determined. He didn’t enjoy showing off his strength and bravery in the various youthful games, choosing instead to let his deeds show those qualities in himself. Needless to say, he didn’t have too many friends growing up. When he was nearing adolescence, a traveler arrived from off-planet. He claimed to be a teacher of the martial arts making his way across the galaxy. Seeing promise in the young Chaa’rin he took the Wookiee under his tutelage, giving him basic instruction in the art of unarmed combat. When it was time for him to take his leave, he left Chaa’rin several texts he had that detailed the finer points of the combat art that had been developed by the Wookiees, the art of wrruushi.

The Clone Wars came and went and with it, the rise of the Galactic Empire. Chaa’rin was able to escape his home planet with his wife and young children before the Empire’s forces swept down and crushed any Wookiee resistance under their bootheels. They laid low for several years, making a life for themselves and staying off the radar. But it was not meant to be. His family was found by slavers looking to make a quick credit. He fought to protect his family, but he was out of practice with his martial skills and was quickly overpowered and left for dead. He regained consciousness hours later, finding his children gone and the body of his wife next to him. His home had been gutted by a fire. Any lingering physical injuries were dwarfed by the emotional pain of having his family and his livelihood stripped away by the most craven of criminals. He buried his wife, made a vow to make the galaxy a brighter place in spite of his personal darkness, took what few possessions had survived the fire including the texts that were left for him by his teacher from so many years ago and struck off on his own. He has been working as a bounty hunter for hire ever since, taking the contracts of the worst scum in the universe.

Design Notes: I’ve always liked the Wookiee form of martial arts ever since I was first introduced to it. And so I knew I needed to create one after the Martial Artist spec was released for the Bounty Hunter career. For further development I’d recommend picking up the Marauder spec from the Hired Gun career early on as Chaa’rin starts to learn more and more from the wrrushi texts, channeling his natural rage into his fighting style. Those two trees combined will give him some frightening power in close quarters combat and keep him alive while he does so.
