Lore Check- Sanravakk the Wookiee Performer

You hear a noise in the darkness. Something approaches. But what is it? Make a Lore Check…

Sanravakk “Sandy Ravage” Wookiee Colonist Performer.

In this article I’ll show you the stats and talents at character creation, as well as some back-round and story ideas to get this character into your game. This idea for this character build came to me as an NPC for my Sunday group.  It has quickly become one of the group’s favorite Characters in game.  I mean come on it’s a Wookiee performer.  Picture in your mind any 80’s Hairband but with a Wookiee as the lead guitarist.  In this case his “Ax” is a Vibro-ax that is modified to be an instrument as well.  This build is a nice all around character that is equally good with Charisma, Intellect, Cunning, and getting into the middle of the fight.

Background:

Sanravakk was the son of a warrior father and a herbalist mother on Kashyyyk.  As a young child his mother taught him some herbalism and healing techniques.  His father had an affinity for carrying war drums into battle.  Some would say this is where he got his musical prowess but you would be only partially correct. The Hutt Durga Besadii Tai captured Sanravakk, among others in his clan, when he was a mere 15 years old.  Durga noted that Sanravakk as a bright and charming kid, despite being brought into the slave world under Hutt rule. He warmed up to the young Wookiee and took him under his wing. Soon Sanravakk was being taught at the best schools in Hutt Space.  During his studies he was able to pursue and excel in music.  So much so that he started to play under the stage name Sandy Ravage and performing for dignitaries, politicos, and crime lords across the Galaxy, including Prince Xizor of the Black Suns and Emperor Palpatine himself.  Durga takes advantage of Sanravakk’s ability to get audiences with almost anyone that enjoys some good music in order to use him as a spy.  Promised that if he performed his duties well that his family would be protected, Sanravakk carries out these clandestine missions.   Since he was taken into slavery 10 years ago he has not seen his family and misses them dearly.  He would do almost anything to get his freedom and get back to his family.  The temptation of fame however is weighing heavily on Sanravakk.

The Stats:

Brawn-3, Agility-2, Intellect-3, Cunning-3, Willpower-1, Presence-3

  • Wookiees get a free rank in Brawl and the Talent Wookie Rage allowing them to do more damage when injured.  So right of the bat those innate talents can make any Wookiee trouble in combat.
  • Base XP was spent all in getting the Characteristics to what is shown above.  30 XP each to raise Intellect, Cunning, and Presence from two to three.  This totals the 90 starting XP.
  • As for the Ranks at Character creation Colonists have the choice of four.  I went with Charm, Deception, Negotiation, and Knowledge(Education).  Charm, Deception, and Negotiation are all essential skills for any Face in any RPG setting.  Knowledge(Education) was chosen based on his schooling he received in his backround story.
  • The Performer Specialization lets you pick two, so I chose Melee and a 2nd rank in Charm.  Charm is your bread and butter so it was an obvious choice to get 2 yellow at game start.  Melee will be needed if you want to have any ability to wield your “Ax” in combat.
  • I recommend taking the 10 point Obligation at start to get the extra XP and money.  This will allow you to get the Vibro-Ax and the talent Distracting Behavior.  This talent allows you to, as a maneuver, have three NPCs suffer a threat on skill checks until beginning of your next turn.  The range of this increases with ranks so a possible distance of Medium after three ranks.
  • For his Obligation I took Slave.  As a slave to a Hutt crime lord you are expected do perform certain duties. (and yes I know Slave is not in the books.  No one said that you couldn’t make up your own).
  • Also in the background is some possible motivations.  Family works well and so does Freedom.   Another could be Fame, you know maybe you want this character to be known across the Galaxy as a great and wonderful musician.

Party Tie Ins:

The most obvious party tie in would be that your other players are all working for this Hutt in some fashion doing odd jobs to work off respected debts.  Another, more fun option could be that Sanravakk is part of a band.  Maybe you have an Engineer roadie,  a Bodygaurd, the limo/bus Driver, and the band manager Entrepreneur as the party.  They go off doing “Gigs” getting intel for Durga.

Suggested 2nd Talent Trees:

Two come to mind with this build.  The first is if you see your character going more for the support roll.  Staying in the Colonist Career, go with the Doctor.  Not only is there a tie in with his back round but you will be able to heal and boost your party as well as yourself.  A more Combat focused character could go into the Spy Infiltrator Tree.  This tree is filled with useful talents to make your Wookiee even more of a force to be reckon with.  This tree also ties in well to being the spy for the Hutts or even the Rebels if you go into more of an AOR story line.

Relatively newer to the RPG seen but have played board games forever and a day. EOTE was the first system that I tried and now in the last 2 years I've been GMing a long term campaign for it. Also in that time I have branched out into D&D 3.5 and 5e, Pathfinder, L5r, Scion, World of Darkness, and Saga edition Star Wars. Leave me a comment about any questions you might have, games you want me to review, or anything in general. Oh and I never listen to the Order 66 Podcast.
