Lore Check – New Heroes Awaken

With the recent reveal of the newest teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as it being May the Fourth, I thought I’d offer up a trio of freshly-minted heroes that could very easily serve as the focal point of their own epic adventures in that galaxy far, far away. Each of them have nods to Star Wars heroes past and present while retaining that separate spark of individuality that helped make the leading heroes of the Star Wars franchise so memorable.

Appearance: A slender, attractive women in her early 20’s, with shoulder-length curls of auburn hair and perceptive blue eyes. Irella dresses in a fashion best suited for the harsh climates of her native Tatooine.

Capsule: Irella was born and raised on the outskirts of Mos Eisley on the desert planet of Tatooine. She has a gift for piloting and is an accomplished swoop racer with several victories on the local circuit to her name, and her big aspiration in life was to become a renowned champion of the galactic swoop racing circuit. Irella was sponsored in her races by a small shipping company, one that was actually a front for a Hutt-backed smuggling operation. When she found out, Irella foolishly did the right thing and informed the local authorities of what she had learned, only to discover just how far the influence of the Hutts could extend. She’s had to flee Tatooine and start her racing career from scratch, but she’s still determined to make her mark as the best swoop jockey the Empire has ever seen.

Appearance: A tall man in his late 20’s, Aguro’s aquiline features and stormy grey eyes make for quite the dashing figure, with his black hair worn in a functional cut and his attire and equipment as well-kept as circumstances will allow.

Capsule: Aguro was raised in a life of comparative luxury, having the good fortune to be born to one of the more influential families on the Core World of Brentaal, and it was no surprise that he received a commission to attend the Imperial Academy. However, it was at the Academy that Aguro’s eyes were opened to just how corrupt the Empire truly was, and made the fateful decision to abandon a promising military career to fight the good fight. It took some time, but he was finally able to hook up with a small Rebel cell, and after putting his combat training and familiarity with Imperial military procedures to good use was able to earn the trust of the cell’s leader, an outspoken political activist who eventually put the former Imperial in charge of the day-to-day operations of the cell as well as planning their attacks and raids on Imperial targets.

Darik Heroes Awaken signedDarik Rhysode

Soak Value: 3
Defense (Melee/Ranged): 0/0

Appearance: Hardly out of his teens, Darik’s appearance is overall very unassuming, standing a bit short of average.  His sandy-brown hair is a tousled mess and his clothes a bit on the disheveled side, yet sea-green eyes are alert and he moves with a casual grace.

Capsule: If you asked him, Darik would say that he’s nobody important and that he’s from no place in particular. But if you believed him, then you’d be wrong. He actually hails from Taris on the Outer Rim, and had to grow up fast in order to survive a life on the streets. While he has a surprisingly strong moral core, Darik isn’t adverse to using underhanded methods to do what needs doing, drawing a hard line at outright murder. One major secret that Davik keeps is that he was born sensitive to the Force, having been made aware of his nascent abilities after trying to lift the credit chip off of an apprentice Jedi that had survived Order 66. Although circumstances have long since forced Davik to strike out on his own, he still remembers what his one-time mentor had taught the one-time street urchin.

And here you have three new heroes, each ready to make their mark on the galaxy in their own respective ways.  They can be added individually to separate campaigns, or used together as part of the same campaign.  I’m sure that the allusions and nods to other heroes of the franchise, from the classic Heroes of Yavin to the new additions set to debut in The Force Awakens to even a bit of Rebels can be seen.
