Welcome to the HoloNet Uplink, citizen. This series focuses on Fantasy Flight Games’ Star Wars Roleplaying Game, with content aimed mostly at the Gamemaster. Threats, adventure seeds, rules supplements, and more are all to come for those who access The HoloNet Uplink.

A few weeks ago I posted about the Sith Empire’s covert operations arm, Imperial Intelligence from the now-Legends MMO The Old Republic. I included stats for a generic Cipher Agent Nemesis. Now it is time to provide stats for the Aston Martin to the Cipher Agent’s James Bond. I’m referring of course to the X-70B Phantom-class covert operations craft. Chromium exterior, custom Alderaanian internal panelling, and extreme engineering make for a ship that I dare say would meet the approval of Q Branch.

X-70B Phantom-class Covert Operations Craft

Built in complete secrecy by Imperial Intelligence engineers, the sleek metal exterior and chic internal design of this transport conceals its immense combat potential. To the casual observer, this craft appears to be a luxury shuttle designed for wealthy travellers to travel the galaxy in style and comfort. A quick and responsive craft, its fighter-like speed and maneuverability is easily explained as appealing to the racing enthusiast community. The streamlined body and dark chromium-titanium finish add to the luxury sporting image. The military grade defensive array, complete with powerful shields and heavy weapons, is masked within sensor-dampening hull plating and further concealed by routing power through the craft’s high power communications array. As a result, the military-grade systems of the X-70B are very challenging to detect. Prototype engineering and bleeding edge miniaturization makes this all possible, but at a cost. Phantom-class craft are phenomenally expensive to build and maintain. While the maze of sophisticated and compressed systems makes even routine maintenance a challenge, a further challenge for technicians is the highly classified nature of the engineering specifications. Owing to its prototype status, replacement parts are tightly controlled and often require custom machining. Overall, the X-70B is perfectly suited for its role as a covert operations assault craft. Its considerable cost and classified manufacture mean X-70Bs are assigned only to the most trusted servants of the Empire, such as Cipher Agents of Intelligence.

Additional Rules: Concealed Systems (Owing to painstaking design to appear as a luxury shuttle, any check to detect the X-70B’s military grade hardware or otherwise notice it is more than a luxury ship has its difficulty increased twice.), Prototype Manufacture (The X-70B was built to extremely tight engineering tolerances in order to include military grade systems within a small, luxury package. Maintenance and repairs require  specific technical expertise and high quality materials: increase the difficulty of any check to service the X-70B, and upgrade the difficulty once if the character does not have access to full technical readouts. In addition, double the base cost of all repairs.)

  1. I want one. I don’t even care if it has all shields and guns and super-spy secret stuff. It just looks amazing.

(What is a ‘commander’ in the context of crew? I might suggest changing that to an engineer.)

    • Hmm, now that I look closer, I think I may have confused the cockpit layout of the X-70B with another SWTOR ship. Will have to take a closer look, but I think it may actually only have two seats in the cockpit for pilot/co-pilot.

Edit: On closer inspection, there’s a pilot/co-pilot/engineer set up on this one. I was totally confusing the cockpit design with the Defender Corvette. Good catch, will fix in the statblock!

  2. I think you may have messed up the ammo count on the concussion missiles. As written, it only has 1 1/2 salvos available. Did you mean to give it 6 full salvos, i.e. Limited Ammo 24?
