Games of Yore

It’s almost technically summer time here in the northern hemisphere. For me, this time of year brings about memories of games more than anything else. While many people step outside and enjoy nature for the first time in months, I grew up in Florida where summer meant humidity, heat and mosquitoes. A perfect combination that says, “nope, stay inside and play games all day”.

So this week the Gamer Nation blog is going to take a look back at some of our favorite games from the past. We’re going to reminisce about those games that remind us about our childhood. For many of us, these are the games that define the idea of a game. Some of these games we haven’t played in 20 years but haven’t forgotten about. Other’s, we still find ourselves playing today.

While this blog mostly focuses on RPG’s and board games, when asked the question of what their favorite game from the past was, many of our writers immediately turned to video games. For us, video games consumed our childhood. But far from stifling our interest in classic board games or tabletop RPG’s they served as gateways drugs to this wonderful world we all enjoy now. A good game is a good game after all.

Grab a drink from the nostalgia fountain and look back with us at such classics as Traveller, Dark Forces, Champions, Hero Quest, Final Fantasy and many more.
