Black Market: Who You Gonna Call? Hulkbusters!

If you were anything like me, you might have let out a little girly squeal manly baritone roar when news of the Hulkbuster being featured in Age of Ultron broke. Ok fine- I squealed! The armor first appeared back in Iron Man #304 back in 1994. Tony Stark created the suit in case he ever had to fight the not-so-jolly green giant. He’s always been very insightful like that.

The Hulkbuster is actually an exoskeleton designed for use with the Iron Man modular armor. The modular armor is a great concept and when I started reading Iron Man, this was the suit he was using and remains one of my favorites. With this model, Tony would be able to outfit himself with mission specific hardware and components. In the case of the Hulkbuster, it’s designed to bust Hulks!

Iron Man designed the suit to detect gamma radiation and gave it carbon composite plating to withstand incredible damage and magno-hydraulic pseudo-musculature to dish it out. For the purposes of this write up, I wanted to give the suit a bit more “oomph” so I stepped up the repulors to D10.  That gives him an opportunity to do a boat-load of damage when using his unibeam attack, but against an enemy like the Hulk, he’s really going to need it!

I toyed with the idea of giving the suit the Collateral Damage SFX and the Huge Limit, but in the end, I decided it didn’t need it and wasn’t really appropriate for Iron Man. Collateral damage can be descriptive of any opportunities activated by the Watcher and because Iron Man can easily shed the Hulkbuster, I didn’t feel Huge was really that much of a limitation for him.

Aside from the these changes, the armor is similar to the write up found in the Marvel Heroic Role Playing game and I’m looking forward to seeing the cinematic version of this beast in action on the big screen.

Alex hasn't done anything worthwhile with his life. He's a great disappointment to his family and friends (even his dog looks at him with shame). Despite his many, many failures and general lack of any redeeming qualities, we took pity on him and let him in here at the Gamer Nation (I don't think we'll ever get rid of that lingering smell now). They say every group of "hotties" needs to keep an ugly friend around to make them look better and It seems that keeping this poor wretch around really does the trick!
