Astral Projections – “The Mandalorian” Gear: Clan Signet

© 2019 Disney/LucasFilm Ltd.

The Mandalorian Season 2 is just over a month away! In honor of Clan Mudhorn, I have made stats for some of the cool gear we saw in Season 1, for use in FFG’s Star Wars RPG lines, especially Edge of the Empire, which I think is the closest in flavor to the show. First up, is the Clan Signet.

Mandalorians have long used the signets to identify their affiliation to other Mandalorians. In addition to being worn on armor, they may also be worn as a pendant, and possibly other accessories. By 9 ABY (and probably for much, much longer), warriors might be given an emblem to mark a significant victory, the design being a stylized depiction of the defeated opponent. These are very personal items. In dire situations, a Mandalorian might give their signet to a very close friend, to identify them as an ally to clan or covert.

A Mandalorian displaying their signet adds 1 Boost to social checks when dealing with other Mandalorians. (Even Mando’ade who are enemies will generally act more or less honorably towards each other.) A non-Mandalorian presenting a clan signet adds 2 Advantage to Charm and Persuasion checks when dealing with the same or an allied clan/clan member.

ITEM             PRICE          ENCUM          RARITY
Clan Signet   1,000 (R)         0                        8+

Design & Play Notes: I spent a little time looking at the gear in Age of Rebellion: Desperate Allies, since the Diplomat sourcebook contains a lot of items that primarily or only affect non-combat skill checks, usually social checks. The +1 Boost/+2 Advantage are in addition to any Boost/Setback given by the GM, of course. The 1,000 price is for a signet’s beskar content. A signet is never legitimately for sale.
Mandalorians who discover the party buying, selling, or looting/stealing a clan signet will react badly and no doubt violently, as this will be viewed as an insult to all Mandalorians. In the case of a Mandalorian giving their signet to a companion PC so that they can get help from other Mandalorians (as Din Djarin suggested to Cara Dune in the Season 1 finale), Despair/s, or 3+ Threat, might mean that one or more of the Mando’ade suspects the PC of lying…
