Astral Projections – Free RPG Day 2021 Is a Go!

Free RPG Day will be happening in 2021, albeit in autumn, October 16, rather than summer. You need to check with your participating FLGS (there’s a locator on the site) about their 2021 format, specifically whether there will be onsite gaming. There is still so much uncertainty and so much variance in the kinds of precautions recommended/mandated depending on location, sadly.

Gaming Days LLC, the organization that produces the event, doesn’t have a lot of information on their website (linked above) yet. There’s a list of Publishing Partners (which I assume has been finalized since the deadline is past) but no Sponsors yet. And of course the Partners’ freebies are secrets right now. However that Publishing Partners roster of 21 companies is pretty impressive on its own. A lot of the perennial participants are back – Paizo, Renegade Games (Kids on Bikes), Wizkids, etc.

I was pleased to see several favorites of mine as well, notably Green Ronin and Mōdiphiüs. I’d love to see Mutants & Masterminds 3e and Star Trek Adventures giveaways, although both companies produce a variety of games. And I always look forward to Paizo’s “We Be Goblins” module, another Free RPG Day tradition.

Alas, I noticed some publishers that often participate are missing. Fantasy Flight Games, Games Workshop, Monte Cook Games, Khepera Publishing, and R. Talsorian Games (RTG) are among them. I was hoping RTG would be back this year, having enjoyed their previous gifts. In fairness, RTG already provided fans with freebies this year, the Elflines Online Cyberpunk RED supplements I told you about last week. Here’s hoping some of these publishers will rejoin the fun in 2022.

Tentatively, I plan to do an update on Free RPG Day 2021 in late September or early October, including what goodies we have to look forward to.
