Astral Projections – Bionic Dog for Genesys

Nearly everyone would love a pupper as a present, including cybernetically enhanced superspies. Some years ago, I created Mutants & Masterminds 3e stats for super-dogs. So this holiday season, I’m giving you Bear the Bionic Dog. Rather than a lab animal, Bear was an injured animal helped by researchers trying to improve bionic replacements with cutting-edge technology and materials and the most delicate of 3D printing. Win/Win! So make a New Year’s resolution to serve your country and make the world a better place, with Bear’s help.

BEAR the BIONIC DOG [Rival]
Modern Era Agent’s Loyal Companion

Characteristics
Brawn 3
Agility 4
Intellect 1
Cunning 3
Willpower 1
Presence 1

Skills: Athletics 2, Brawl 3, Perception 3, Stealth 2

Soak: 4 Defense (m/r): 0/0 Wound Threshold: 12

Equipment: 4 Bionic Legs (Cybernetic Legs, +1 Agility); Bionic Jaws (Cyberorgan , +1 Brawl); Canine Utility Vest (+1 Encumbrance, +1 Soak)

Design & Play Notes: I enjoyed watching The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman as a young teen. Being a life-long dog lover, I was especially fond of Max, the bionic dog.  Characteristics and Skills are based on my Fenwolf (Age of Rebellion) stats.  Most of the changes are due to the bionic dog being a smaller canine that cannot be ridden and has different training.
This Genesys version of a bionic dog uses the cybernetics gear from the Example Setting: Android in the Genesys Core Rule Book (p. 177). The bionic jaws are a variant of the Cyberorgan gear that grants +1 Brawl skill, instead of one of the RAW options. Feel free to add bionic senses using the Cybereyes stats, which can also represent other bionic sense organs.

Like most movie and TV canine heroes (Rin Tin Tin, Lassie, even Benji), Max is depicted as being particularly clever and intelligent for a dog. This can be represented by spending a Story Point, or in narrating Advantage and Triumph on Bear’s checks.

Yes, I named this bionic dog for my own beloved Lab mix, who is, as I write this, sprawled on the couch getting petted by me.
