Guide: X-Wing Buying Guide Compendium

This week we’ve tried to answer the common question of what ships you should buy for the X-Wing Miniatures game from Fantasy Flight Games. Each day we’ve looked at a guide for each of the three factions (Imperial, Rebel, Scum). Today we’re going to summarize the suggested buying list by compiling everything together into one list. This is a quick guide for what ships to buy if you aren’t faction locked.

Total retail value for the following list, at MSRP, is $995. That is quite a bit of money. But, as we’ve said before, DON’T PANIC! First, don’t buy everything at once. Second, if you buy online you can bring that price down to around ~$700. Third, compare that price to what it would cost if you bought the maximum number of ships (ie could field the maximum of each type that could fit in a squad) which is an overwhelming $2320.

And last, but not least, this is just a guide. Buy what ships you think are cool above all else.

  1. Awesome. I’m looking to get back into this game. Having 2 original core sets, would you suggest getting the new core set first?

    • The new Core set is nice. For a new person I would recommend one of each. But if you already have two original cores then it’s not strictly necessary so depends on what you want to fly. The new core has the new damage deck, which is much improved. It also has the awesome T-70 and TIE/FO and a few great upgrades which will probably be unique to it (BB-8 astromech) and some great pilots (Poe Dameron, a few TIE pilots).

  2. Thanks for this, Wayne. I’ve been out of the X-Wing game for a while now, and have been planning to get back into it. This will be valuable when I roll up to the store looking to fill out my lists.
