"Broadcasting from Sunnyshore City, The Underground brings you all the very best in Pokemon news and views this side of Twist Mountain. Join hosts Sam and Nateal every week for programming that puts Goldenrod Radio to shame!" Each week, we plan to bring you a new episode covering all things Pokemon. We’re equal-opportunity trainers here at The Underground, so no aspect of the Pokemon franchise is off limits! The Underground Podcast was established March, 2012. Nateal is a 22-year-old Pokemon Trainer who started playing Pokemon long ago in the days of Red and Blue. She’s been in love with Pokemon ever since, having never missed a generation. Her favorite Pokemon include Mew, Raichu, and Typhlosion, and she loves every Pokemon type. She dabbles in Pokemon fanfiction, though it’s none of that slash garbage that clogs up the intertubes these days. (Darn kids and your internet.) She recently started attending her local IRL Pokemon League and is very excited to be battling other trainers who are admittedly much more experienced than she. Currently not an old-hat in the world of competitive Pokemon tournaments, she hopes to be going to the State tournaments with a few of the members of her local League this upcoming year. Sam is a 24-year-old Pokemon Trainer who is no stranger to the Pokemon universe, and began breeding and training for competitive battling in 2010. He began playing Pokemon with the Yellow Version, and, despite a long break, picked the games back up with the FireRed and LeafGreen Versions and possesses every version of the game from the 3rd Generation to the most recent. His favorite Pokemon include Dragonair, Butterfree and Suicune, and his favorite type is the Dragon type. He has participated in a number of local tournaments and league activities, and looks forward to participating for the first time ever in Regional tournaments in 2013. You can contact our mailbag by sending an email to: theundergroundmailbag@gmail.comAlso, be sure to check out our website!(And for those who don't get the reference, "The Underground" is an homage to the awesome, yet sadly forgotten, Underground from the 4th generation of games in which you could mine for items, create your own personal secret base, and link up with other trainers to play things like "capture the flag".)

I've always been interested in Pokemon though never really had the time to devote to it. Have you guys played the Pokemon Tabletop Adventures? It looks really good.

I've taken a look at it, but the rules seem a bit cumbersome to me. It'd certainly be worth another look, though.

Both Kalylia and I have looked at it, and while I'll admit that it's impressive, it feels like it would be incredibly cumbersome to run at the table. It feels like there's simply too much there and they tried to do too much with it.
There's something to be said for the design perspective of starting with a simple concept and then layering on the complexity so that it feels like an organic growth (as in Burning Wheel), but in this instance, it feels like they simply tried to create an analogue to everything that there is in the video game without much regard to how it was all going to interact and fit together (much like The Returners did with their 2nd Edition Final Fantasy RPG, IMO), but that's all an impression I get from giving the game a cursory reading, and not doing any dissection or deep reading on it.
Anyway, that's neither hear nor there.

I would agree with that is seems a bit cumbersome to run, however I think it would be interesting for a session or two. I am trying to convince one of my players (who has more pokemon knowledge than i do) to run a session of it. If that happens I'll post my thoughts on the game.

My kids are knee-deep in Pokemon thanks to re-runs on the Boomerang channel. I am a fan of your Geek Fatale podcast so I imagine this should be of similar caliber. I have just downloaded your podcast for the first time. Many thanks.

Ah, good old Boomerang bringing back the magic. I've been hearing good things about the current season of the anime, though, and you can also view that online on the official Pokemon website. Thanks so much for listening!
