I’m running the Dawn of Defiance path as our first dip in the Saga rules and it’s been going swimmingly. Probably one of the most interesting RPGs I’ve ever run.

So some background:

We’re currently between episode 3 and 4 and due to some incorrect XP rewards ( I was giving XP according to the encounter CL rather than per opponent XP for an adventure or two) my players are two levels behind the curve for the path. This gives me a chance to try some adventure creating of my own.

I’m running a small encounter on the Resurgence at the moment. A Rodian mercenary and some human Imperial Intelligence agents have infiltrated the ship and tried to disable it. Anyway the battle for the bridge is happening in my sessions at the moment, as the imperials try to stop the ship leaving before a star destroyer comes. This should all be wrapped up next session.

So what’s next:

There is a Mon Cal (tech spec, scoundrel) player in the group. His background, like all my players unfortunately, is fairly sparce, but the one element was he left his home planet because he killed someone. The group wants to sell the Golden Chariot and pick up a Corellian YT freighter (I have the Millenium Falcon Owners manual on it’s way to me as a prop). So I thought the Mon Cal ship yards would be a great place to set up the next adventure.

Here are the ingredients:
- The group will sell the Chariot and purchase the freighter (in Wato’s Used Starships - Comes with a free chance cube!!) and, knowing my group as I do, they will want extensive repairs and modifications - Starships of the Galaxy, yey. The Mon Cal player will have some family connections here.
- I’m setting this just before the Battle of Mon Calamari, with the arrival of the empire’s ships and planetary shields going down as the climax. The group will escape using their newly outfitted ship running the gauntlet against Tie Fighters and tactical fire from Star Destroyers to get to hyperspace.
- The Mon Cal player’s character killed a Quaren, a son of Seggor Tels maybe, who is a leader of the Quarren and involved in the plantetary shield sabotage . Maybe he is connected to the Quarren Isolation League. I’d like to work this in somehow, avoiding a lethal confrontation with the Quarren leader.
- I’d like some underwater combat and maybe a visit to a underwater Quarren city or maybe the undersea levels of one of the bigger Mon Cal cities where Quarrens hang out.
- Maybe some imperial agents in the mix too.

One of my reasons for these interludes is to try get my players to hate on the empire a little more; make it more personal. They dislike the empire in a vague way at the moment, but I think they need to see some of the horrible stuff first hand to give them more motivation.

Any Ideas, comments, suggestions or criticisms welcome.

PS the Podcast is awesome, very helpful. I’m only in the 30s at the moment though.
