Hi Gang!

(Hi Unca' Fiddleback!)

Hey, great to see you all. How you doing?

(We're great, Unca' Fiddleback!)

Excellent, excellent.

So, the reason I've called you all here today is to hand out the Vent info.

(Yay!)

Or rather, to NOT hand out the Vent info.

(Awww...)

I know, I know, but hear me out. It's like this, you see. If the vent info gets posted anywhere publicly, then it ends up all over the internet and then ANYONE, in the guild or not in the guild, can get into our vent server and cause problems. And we don't want that, do we, gang?

(No Unca' Fiddleback, we don't. That would be a 'bad thing'.)

Yes, yes it would. I'm glad you're all with me on that.

(But Unca' Fiddleback, how will we get onto the vent server then?)

Easy gang, ol' Uncle Fiddleback has got you covered. I've thought of everything, even some things you haven't, yet.

(Gosh Unca' Fiddleback, you're so clever.)

I am, aren't I? Anyway, what we'll do is two things.

(Tell us! Tell us!)

Patience, gang, patience. The first thing we'll do is post the vent info in the MOTD in the guild roster in the game. That means Message of the Day, gang.

(We know that Unca' Fiddleback! Get on with it!)

Right. Good. Okay. So, the second thing we'll do is make the info available to all our Officers to hand out to people. All you have to do is send them a message in game, tell them who you are on these forums and they'll help you get things set up and running. This is especially good if you've never used Vent before and aren't quite sure what to do. You do know who our Officers are, don't you gang?

(Yes, Unca' Fiddleback, you keep telling us. Is this the only reason you got us here?)

Uh, yeah, gang. So, all you have to do is /w either Kat, TJ, AlphaAnt, Zertz, Perrian, DarthGM, or myself with your forum name (we'll check) and they'll be happy to help you.

(But Unca' Fiddleback, you forgot that they won't necessarily be using those names in the game. What do we do then, you big dummy? Huh?)

Hey now! I told you I thought of things you didn't. Play nice. If you need to find out the name of their characters in the game, it's easy. You go here: https://sites.google.com/site/theordero ... characters and find them in the list. Assuming all has gone well and everything is up to date you should be able to track them down that way. If all else fails you can post a message in this thread, with your character name, to have one of them contact you.

(Unca' Fiddleback, what if no one is on who has permission to hand out the Vent info? Huh? Didn't think of that, did you? No you didn't! Ha!)

Look you little scrubs, if you can't be patient enough to wait for someone to log on while you are playing, then you've got some serious ADD problems. I mean, seriously, use some patience, we'll get everyone the info as soon as we possibly can. It'll all work out, I swear.

(It better Unca' Fiddleback, or we're coming after you. With pitchforks...and...and...fire! Yeah, fire! Burn! Burn! Burn!)

Geez. You guys are viscious! Tell you what, I'll just go over...uh... over HERE until the game launches, ok? Just umm... amuse yourselves until then.

See you in the game!

(various dark mutterings ensue)

Some things to keep in mind when using the Vent Server which, if you were in beta and used the server then, has changed significantly.:

The Main Lobby (d20 Radio) is great for Meet and Greet and that sort of thing. However, in the interest of A) Helping people group and B) Not annoying each other, try out the various Planet Rooms so that you can be aware of who is on the planets with you and perhaps available to group.

If you would like to just hang out and chat without worrying too much about who is where or you are just dropping by for a visit feel free to use the General Chat Lobby.

Flashpoints, Operations, Heroics, RP Cantina and PvP all have their own rooms. If you are running a group involving one of these things, please use these rooms rather than any of the lobby rooms. Again, it'll be better for all of us. If you are not doing one of these things then please be courteous and not hang out in these rooms unless you have been invited to do so.

The AFK channel is set up to not have any timeout. If you are going to be idle or away from your computer, this is the room for you.

The Zulu Online RPG room is free for anyone to use if they wish to do PnP role play using the Vent server

The Podcast Channel is off limits to all unless a specific vent event is being done by The Order 66 Podcast. If that is the case, announcments will be made in that forum.

Other than that, go forth and game folks! Enjoy yourselves.

For an added bit of security, I will PM you the info on the forums, not in game. It would be way too easy for someone to just say they were "So and So" from the forums if we just did it by whisper. I'm also going to be slightly cautious about people that have less than, say, 20 posts overall....

Is Vent required for guild membership?

I think Unca' Fiddleback looks more like a fisherman.

Just a gut feeling.

Scratch one thing off my list of things to do during downtime, should be on Vent when the servers go back up and I can get the server info.

Are you running as administrator? (Right click Ventrilo, click "run as administrator.")

Vent tends not to pick up mic info in game unless you are running as administrator.

This fixed the issue for me. We should probably just include than in the Vent info for people running Vista/7, since it seems to be a pretty common issue.

An adjustment is in order, until such time as TOR gives us more MoTD room...

Your vent server is as follows:
vent2.gameservers.com
port: 4583

the password will be available in the MoTD when you log into the game and are part of the guild.

This informations is also absolutely priceless for using Vent in game - make sure you can hear those awesome moments of voice acting over our general chatter by creating a mute keybind:
