I would recommend Dungeon world over Apocalypse World. It's a much better implementation of the system.

I've yet to try it. But I've heard it was well received at gencon. I'll have to take a look.

On the tension of ceremony, this clip sums it up perfectly.

Got to listen to the post-show segment.

And couldn't agree more with GM Chris' recommendation of Avatar: the Last Airbender. Granted, the first season starts off fairly light and fluffy, but things really start getting better with the second season. After all, how many animated series can make a 14 year old princess a legitimately threatening villain to the protagonists and not only avoid falling into the common animated series trap of an ineffectual villain, but making said villain dangerously genre savvy as well? Granted, I'm a major Zuko fan (as the forum avatar suggests), and found his story quite interesting and entertaining.

Zucko's storyline is by far the best part of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It is indeed an amazing show that I am not ashamed to admit I have on DVD lol. But yeah you want an idea of a fully fleshed out character arc, Zucko is the way to go. I also like that despite the fact that it is a cartoon and because of this the characters for the most part always look the same, Zucko looks different in every season which helps highlight his character development even more, it makes him that much more real and relate-able.

Sam always comes on and delivers and brings out some amazing advice for GMing that I always value. Now if only real life didn't ruin my gaming group, one friend is unemployed and desperately trying to find a job, another just had a baby. I wish I could get them all together to play on a regular basis but it is so hard, and becoming more so even now. Too bad I don't know anybody else in Central Jersey that games I could easily recast my friends that way, at least I have beta to pass the time....lol

When I skyped in that question, I never anticipated such an awesome discussion would be the response. Thank you guys. Did Chris or anyone make the Tension of... List? I'd love to have that in my DM kit... but am a tad lazy to make it myself.

I've got a question about something I might have heard in Ep 145. Problem is I can't recall if it was in Ep 145, and I'm hoping if it was, someone else might have heard. I think at one point GM Chris, mentions Kat (please excuse me if I've butchered the name. =/), running a SAGA version of the Mass Effect setting?

If this was in Ep 145, could someone let me know, and if it was.. anyone know if the conversion notes are somewhere around the web, or if not, would Kat (again if I befouled the name sorry. =/), be willing to share the conversion...if at all possible? I'm a economy sized class Mass Effect fan. :)

Anyway, thanks, and sorry to pester the thread. :D

I'd recommend sending Kat a PM. That's her username on these very forums. :-)

And yes, she IS running a Mass Effect SAGA game for us!!! And YES, it's going to be EPIC. (Brev's playing a krogan...)

Or maybe I'll PM you first. (Not quite as clever as Han shot first, but I'll take what I can get.)

Ooooh...not that I'd ever get a chance to use them, but would it be possible to get a copy of said Mass Effect conversion notes myself? I've been mulling the possibility of running a Mass Effect e20 system game whenever GM Sarli gets it finalized, but would love to get a head start :D

Another Masterful Show Gentlemen, this episode was PURE WIN!!! The bad boys of Saga Edition once again Enlighten the GM's of GamerNation!!! It's always a pleasure to have the GODFATHER of the SWSE Fraternity lay down the Gospel of the Game on my favorite podcast. Everytime you guys get together for the magical "Sam" shows, it never fails that I learn something valuable that "ups" my game, and this show definetely did not dissapoint!

I think it's safe to say that on behalf of GamerNation...

GM SAM, We Love You Dude!!!

(and we love you too GM Chris and GM Dave, oh yeah and you too Chuck!)

Great show, gentlemen! I loved most especially the discussion in the post show concerning 5th edition on the horizon, 4th edition and its comparison to older or more rules light game systems. I am heartened to hear the endorsement of the Castles & Crusades system. I, too, am a very busy man with a full time job, seven children to care for, a wife to love and many home repairs to make...and I like to game, obviously. Since my time is extremely limited I have found that C&C and games like it, e.g. OSRIC are a very welcome thing. I examined the 4th incarnation of my favorite game and was immediately overwhelmed with the amount of rules, options, etc. available and was turned off just as immediately. This is what drove me back to games like Castles & Crusades. Player generation is fast and easy, monster stat blocks are maybe two lines long and combat and skill resolutions are quick and painless.

I love the Star Wars Saga Edition game, however, it does have a tendency to take a great deal of time to prepare due to the inherent complexities written into the system and unlike GM Chris, I loathe having to look through several books to get to the specific information I need. In my younger years I might have appreciated this, however, nowadays time is no longer a luxury I can afford to waste in this fashion, no disrespect intended GM Chris. It is my hope that Fantasy Flight also takes note of this trend of the OSR influence and help streamline even more so this beloved game.

Again, great show guys. Many good thoughts on player immersion and antagonists.

I'm new here having migrated from Chronicles Pathfinder d20.

Avatar animation season 1 ~ 3 was great especially for character build and scenario ideas.

Episode 145 was excellent! I've went back and listened to 30 episodes since. I will now purchase every Star Wars Saga Edition core rule book, module, etc. that exists to learn more and appreciate the system.

Keep up the great work!!

Your best bet is to keep an eye on this forum. Chris and Dave will generally make an announcement a while before they record the show. If you're on Twitter, they tend to announce it there around the same time as they announce it on the boards. (They are @GMChris and @GMDave respectively.)
