This being July 12, 2011, it is the day that fans of George R.R. Martin have been waiting for since November of 2000. Back in November of that year, GRRM appeared in Toronto's World's Biggest Bookstore to give a talk and autograph A Storm of Swords for me. It was the first Tuesday in November, and it was the same night that Bush and Gore began their own Dance that would last a few months. Happily, it didn't last ten and a half years.

It's been that long since GRRM released a new book with most of his main characters in it. Finally, last night I got the audio book (narrated by Roy Dotrice) from iTunes and started my download at 11:58 p.m... I paid more for it than I should, but I wasn't waiting for those dolts at Audible.com to get it up their website for sale (it's there now). So I paid a premium for the privilege of hearing the disky dulcets of Roy Dotrice as I faded off to sleep near The Wall. I HAPPILY paid it, too.

And just now at work, my hardcover copy of A Dance with Dragons showed up from Amazon (along with a copy of Ultimate Magic and a flip-mat for use in my new PFS night in Toronto). So my world is a far brighter place this day, by a few hundred thousand lumens, at least.

I hope that despite my experiencing a level of distraction (that comes perilously close to approximating The Ass Fuck Twins, naked and oiled whilst giving me a come hither look as they giggle promisingly), that we can still get Episode 015 out the door this coming weekend. If not, I hope that you will understand that sometimes, being a fan can pose an inconvenient obstacle (or as Azmyth alternatively describes my love for these books as: "my Obsession").

For those who share my Obsession, a shout out and warm wishes on this happy day, and for those who do not, once more, I cannot recommend these books (or the audiobook versions of same) highly enough.

So how do you get your audiobook autographed?

I have heard so much about those books from you all there at the podcast, that I believe I shall finally start reading them and/or listening.

At $19.77 for the first four books as a boxed set, this is EASILY the best $20 you can spend at Amazon.com - or anywhere else, for that matter.

Those books in the boxed set are fatties too. That's close to 4,000 pages for $20. Half a cent a page. It's a STEAL. There is a reason these books were all in the top ten of Amazon and the NY Times mass-market bestseller list at once.

I truly cannot recommend these books highly enough.

Yeah, I have seen A Game of Thrones I a book store one time and my first thought was dang that's a big book. But four of them for $20? That is incredible.

I understand this thread is a bit on the older side, but I am SO looking for a means to adding a Tyrion Lannister in my game!

Agreed - I'm 98.5% the way through Game of Thrones, and he's the only major character that has really been interesting...

... and I just realized I'm late returning the book to the Library. Dang it.
