Supplemental: Captain Minser Corsten

Veda's father, Minser Corsten, served as the Chief Tactical Officer aboard the Galaxy class USS Typhon (NCC-78201) during the Dominion War. His unique ability to be incredibly precise with torpedoes saved the Typhon any number of times in combat against Cardassian, Breen and Dominion forces. One of its more important missions was defending Earth against Breen forces. While the Federation Task Force was unable to prevent the Breen from bombing San Francisco, the Typhon prevented the Breen from causing even more destruction. In light of his accomplishments, he was promoted to Captain.
Several years into service, in response to a distress signal, Captain Corsten beamed down with an away team to a planet with a strong magnetic field. They had a problem with their transporter unit and the team was presumed dead because they did not rematerialize. The distress signal as well stopped transmitting. Unbeknownst to the Typhon, the team was still alive, but trapped in a transporter beam on the planet. A year later, an Intrepid class science ship conducted a routine scan of the planet and discovered some unusual energy traces. They rematerialized the away team and rescued Corsten and his team. Shortly afterwards, Minster retired from Starfleet.

Supplemental: First Officer Commander Mervin Corsten

Merv is Veda's First Officer and cousin. His parents died in the Breen attack on San Francisco in 2375, leaving Merv extremely resentful toward the Breen.
For years, Mervin stayed on Earth and worked for Starfleet as an Engineer. His specialty is starship shields; at the Academy, he made significant contributions to the field of starship shield configurations, developing a more efficient shield pattern for Type 7 shuttles.
He decided to return to the Academy for several more courses with Veda. He didn't want a family member to face danger alone so he signed up for her crew.

Supplemental: Past Medical Training/Doctor T’Pex

Veda was given early admittance to Starfleet Academy based on the recommendations of a Doctor T’Pex, Chief Medical Officer of the USS Destiny. This is the same doctor who finalized a cure for the rare human genetic disorder T-T-Sapex. Veda also worked as an intern at the Vail Medical Center during which time Dr. T’Pex visited for a training seminar.

Supplemental: Commendation

In 2409, Veda was awarded the Starfleet Medal of Exploration for discovering a new species of plant.
She named it the Kala-Oak; mostly after Admiral Kala Duran for inspiring Veda to continue her scientific pursuits, no matter how small and also due to the plants similarity in appearance of the Quercus rubra.
