Hi guys, As you know, hopefully, The Gamer Nation is taking a big step into Game Development and Production and our first game, Edition Wars, is coming out in time for GenCon. We need a favor though. We have a web site for the game at http://www.thegamernation.org/ and, while it is of course lovely and beautiful and etc., etc., it looks a bit thin at the moment. This is where you come in. We need folks to head over there and comment, honestly and fairly, about the various posts and pages you will see. Something to make it look a little lived in, if you follow. We would appreciate any efforts you make and can promise to award each of you one free internets. Also, you will be helping to make Edition Wars, and our next game (whatever that may be) a success. Thanks in Advance.

I was actually pleasantly surprised. This is easily the best-looking of the d20 Radio family of sites I've seen so far. Which, to put it bluntly... well, let's just say it's largely apparent that there aren't any master web designers on the team. I guess the few things I'd change are: The header/title font is a little too frilly. It doesn't scale down well and becomes difficult to read at smaller sizes. I lack encyclopedic knowledge of fonts, but I bet you could find one with a similar feeling to it that's more readable. "Now Available for Pre-Order from Funagain Games" - story: Their logo is poorly scaled, looks pixelated, and only takes up about the top third of the featured image box, which looks unprofessional. I'd probably just open the logo they gave you in photoshop, and center it vertically on a white box the exact size of the featured image box before uploading it. The opacity of the border around the content elements seems a little too understated. You guys may have already tried messing with the opacity, and it's possible that making it more prominent will just make it look worse. But I'd give it a look.

As a follow-up, looking at other game publishers, I think Fantasy Flight have easily the best website, design-wise.
Not bad: Green Ronin, White Wolf.
AGH MY EYES: WotC, Paizo. (We're already beating Paizo)

Thanks TJ.... but not even slightly what I was looking for. Comments... on the posts... over THERE.....
Not design discussion.. more like the occasional "Woohoo!" sorta thing.. However... I shall take your comments here under advisement...

AGH MY EYES: WotC, Paizo. (We're already beating Paizo) I'd agree about Fantasy Flight and White Wolf. Both are functional and decent looking. Green Ronin's main site is not pretty, but she's good with the kids. It's easy to navigate, and passable from a design perspective, but it doesn't deserve any awards. Their various brands though vary greatly. I'd say the 'Mutants & Masterminds' site is excellent, but their 'DragonAge' site probably costs them sales on that product, which is a shame. WotC has the opposite problem of Green Ronin, in that it looks nice enough, but finding anything is a pain in the ass. Paizo's site looks like it was put together by an accountant. Catalyst's site is about on the same level as White Wolf's. It could use a bit of refinement, but is still pretty functional and easy to look at. Margaret Wies Productions' is an eyesore, though that's not much of a surprise considering the layout of their books.

Well hey I think the websites are well enough, but in working in IT I am quite versed in web design, should you ever want a facelift I will gladly assist you if need be, until then I will gladly try and make the current page seem more lived in as you have requested, it is the least I can do for a network of podcasts that welcomed ours with open arms.

Although from what I can tell we can't leave comments on the site because registration is locked and I tried using the forum name on a whim in case you imported the database but that did not seem to work. But as soon as I can register to comment I certainly will!

No I totally understand, believe me I have to deal with it on our site as well. At the moment I can't seem to access the registration page it just says registration is not available. I assume you are looking into the best way to allow registrations to weed out the spam bots but like I said as soon as registration appears to be open I will gladly pad the site with some awesome comments, I promise I am not a robot, most of the time at least lol.

Hmm, thought I had all the proper boxes ticked.
Would you mind trying again, please.
