http://doompool.blogspot.com/2012/07/doom-pool-issue-2.html?m=1In this issue, we talk effect die, tease civil war, talk with Blogger Ben Erickson, tell you what you need to know about Iron Man, Spider-man, and Sentry (spoiler alert, we don't like him), and finish with Count Nefaria and The Living Laser.

Another good episode guys.
One thing about milestones though, and maybe this is just my perception of them, but I kind of read them as being a "once per scene" sort of thing, mostly to avoid them being abused.
For example, under Wolverine's "Old Friends, Old Enemies" milestone, the way I read it is that you could only trigger the 1 XP level once per scene, rather than declaring several bad guys in the same scene to be an "old ally" or "old foe," otherwise there's not much from stopping Wolvy from racking up several easy XP by declaring a bunch of separate villains to be "old foes" of his. Maybe a better example would be Thing's "Feet of Clay," as the Moody limit could be activated a few times in one scene, again providing Mama Grimm's Baby Boy with some very easy XP. Or even Spidey's "Team Player" could be abused this way by providing support, particularly if you define team as "an organized group of heroes under a specific name with joint resources" ala the Avengers, the X-Men, New Warriors, Guardians of the Galaxy, Starjammers, etc and so on. Or a fourth example of potential abuse if not limited to "once per scene" would be Iron Fist's "Immortal Weapon," as he could easily rack up XP by using specialties to aid another character.
On a more positive note, the discussion you guys gave on Iron Man and Webhead were quite good, with particular note to using Iron Man's Tech and Vehicle specializations in combat, something I'd not considered when skimming thru the stat blocks.
Sadly, the audio issues did sour the actual play segment a bit, particularly as it sounded like Bryan was really getting into character with the wisecracking.
Looking forward to the next episode.

This is actually called out in the book under Milestones. The 1 XP trigger CAN be triggered as many times as a character likes in a scene, but only once per action (so Wolverine can't get multiple XP for hitting several enemies with a single attack). The 3 XP trigger can only be triggered once a scene and the 10 XP trigger once. And when you start looking at the various ways to spend XP inside of an event for resources beyond character advancement, it becomes apparent that this ability to build XP up with the relatively simple triggers becomes rather important. It's not readily apparent in the Basic book, but when looking at the Civil War book, there's a LOT to spend XP on.

In particular, that 1xp repeatable is important, and you should be cruising as hard as you can for the 3xp trigger. No player in our event:Breakout Act 1 had more than 3XP by the end of Act One.
But yeah, We have resolved our technical issues (it's only the live play that sounds bad, so we only had to look so far for the source - my laptop's crappy audio card!) and future live play will be recorded from more robust machines with better mics.

And yet, there are 1 XP milestones which, because of the wording, seem to only be achievable once per game... Sentry's "How The Mighty Have Fallen" being a text book example. Sentry can only "first use his powers again" once. Other milestones that have the vitals "first" modifier like Shadowcat's "In over your head" or Mr. Fantastic's "Guilt ridden" are at least repeatable from scene to scene...

That's why I wondered about the "once per scene" limit on the Milestones. Maybe it's just me, but it hardly seems fair/balanced that some characters can be XP-gaining machines while others are much more restricted.

Another enjoyable epsiode, so far. I just got to the interview with Cyril. I kinda want to come in and defend the Sentry, just to keep with the theme I have going so far, but the Sentry is lame. However, even lame characters get their moments to shine; Jeff Parker's AGE OF THE SENTRY mini is pretty great. Though pretty much everything Jeff Parker writes is great. TheHawv wrote: Sentry can only "first use his powers again" once. Considering how the Sentry works in the comics, I think that were I to run a Marvel Heroic game, and one of my players wanted to play him -- unlikely as that is -- I'd rule that the 1xp would be earned every time he first uses his powers after changing from Bob into the Sentry. Which, if the player is maintaining the theme of the character, would be infrequent. Really looking forward to when you gents eventually get to the "What You Need To Know" segment featuring Black Panther. Considering his "A King Needs A Queen" milestone pretty much encourages the player to flirt with any lady characters he encounters -- very out of character -- I'm interested in your interpretation.

Ask, and ye shall receive. I just bumped Reed Richards to episode 5 and slotted Black Panther in for episode 4. Never said we don't take requests.

Finished listening to the episode this evening. Good stuff. I'm somewhat amused at the idea of Count Nefaria being intimidated into surrendering.
Regarding the "updated" Nick Fury featured in the promo pics for Marvel Now, that's the original Nick Fury's son. There was a fairly contrived mini-serries -- BATTLE SCARS -- that ended when the 'Avengers' movie hit theatres, which brought both him and Coulson and into the Marvel U.
Short form version is that the dude was introduced as Marcus Johnson, an army ranger, and over the course of six issues, his mother is killed, he losses his eye, finds out his dad is Nick Fury, gets recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D., is given the uniform Steve Rogers wore for a little bit while Bucky was still Captain America, and learns that his birth name is actually Nick Fury Jr.
Comics are ridiculous.
