So here's the predicament I'm in with my first alt, Avvin the Trooper (who will be my main until the
Kira Carsen bug is fixed.)
- I want to play a DPS class, since my Knight already tanks (and we have a very high ratio of tanks in our guild, especially considering TOR only requires 1 in 4 players to be a tank, rather than 1 in 5.)
- I just... don't like the look of assault cannons. I want my Trooper to be toting around a sleek, accurate rifle- not a Volkswagen. So Commando is out.
- Why the Trooper even has a melee tree (Tactics) is beyond me. I don't really like it at all.
So the question is: can you viably play a ranged DPS Vanguard?
Why yes, I think you can. Granted, I can't seem to put together a viable build that doesn't make use of Stock Strike, so you will have to melee occasionally.
Build Version 1:
http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#8010M ... hMbdGhrs.1Unsurprisingly, it relies a lot on the Vanguard/Commando shared Assault Specialist tree.
I'm somewhat torn, part of me wants to drop Brutal Impact from Shield Specialist to pick up the Tier 3 Battlefield Training from Tactics. 30% speed boost would not only make getting around faster (sprint becomes almost irrelevant), but would also aid a lot in getting in close for a Stock Strike, then back out. At the same time, anything that makes High Impact Bolt do more damage makes me a happy Sergeant.
Thoughts?
EDIT: I did purposely skip pretty much all of the survivability-boosting talents in favor of more damage. I'm planning on the fact that I can already wear Heavy armor to offset this.
