It's been made pretty clear on the BioWare website and on StarWars.com (as well as in-universe) that "Mandalorian" is a faction (like "Republic"), not a species (like "Human") or a class/occupation (like "Bounty Hunter"). Take a look at this dev blog on bounty hunters: http://swtor.com/news/bwblog/20090403_001They make it clear that Mandalorians will play a role. (With Friday's update, how could they not?) But they also make it clear that Mandalorians are "off the table" when it comes to being the centerpiece of the Bounty Hunter class. I would say it's a decent bet that you might be able to become a Mandalorian (by making specific choices at specific "flash points") during the course of the game. However, the chances of seeing "Mandalorian" as a species are zilch, IMHO.

is there a possibility for mandolorian to be a profession instead of a class or something so that you could have a mandolorian jedi or force-user?

I think these are the possibilities, in order of how likely they are (and this is just my opinion/hunch):
1) You can become a Mandalorian by making specific choices at specific flashpoints, but these flashpoints will only be offered to certain classes (like bounty hunter and soldier).
2) Mandalorians will play a role in the story, but as NPCs only.
3) You can become a Mandalorian by making specific choices at specific flashpoints, and these flashpoints will be offered to all classes, including Jedi and Sith.
4) You can become a Mandalorian, and this option is offered to you at the start of the game if you choose a particular class (like bounty hunter and soldier).
5) You can become a Mandalorian, and this option is offered to you at the start of the game no matter what class you choose.
I think 1 and 2 are by far the most likely, while 3 through 5 are tiny slivers of possibility. IMHO the odds of Mando Force-users are low, and the odds of getting to be a Mando from the get-go are low.

Aside from the endless Mando-hug-circle going on here, I must voice my protest at the assertion in the recent interviews regarding Naming conventions that "Numbers" will not be available for character names. Aside from the obvious implication that Droids will not be a playable "race" to choose from //insert NERDRAGE here// this disavows such characters as Dorsk 81, the Clone Jedi (unrelated to Clone Wars-ness).

For every EU fan who wants to make Dorsk 81, there are about 500 fanboys and fangirls who (thankfully) cannot name their characters "twilightfan67349"

I saw plenty of stupid character names in SWG. Anything that encourages immersion (aka, roleplay) is helpful, IMNSHO.

As mentioned (while derailing another thread) there is now confirmation that you are not going to be playing TOR in a "humans only" mold. http://www.starwars.com/vault/databank/#speciesPanelThey refuse to (as yet) identify exactly what the other playable races might be, however now we can get on with the rest of the topic. Speculate away.....and vote for Droid Liberation NOW!

I'd say its a pretty safe bet that Wookiees will be available. They've been a part of the story, regardless of role, since half an hour into the first film.
The one which I'd be most interested to see, though, is the Jawa! Mitkit the crazy Jawa must live! Naw, seriously I think they should put in Bothans. I love the whole species of spies idea.

I think they'll definitely be in as NPCs, but I doubt they'll put in any non-basic speaking races. Also, wookiees would require remodeling of every armor model. That's a bit of stretch for one race.

I dunno about that as a dealbreaker, look at what they can do for everything from Gnomes to Tauren in WoW, no stretch there for modeling each race and gender. That is a stock-in-trade staple for MMOs. Of course they could go the other direction, and with the exception fo a few ponchos/capes or bags/hats, the wookiees get " Plastoid Hairspray +50 to Armor" or " Reflec Hair Gel: +13 STR, +15 CHA, Chance on hit to add +1 Wookiee Rage"

I think the non-basic-speaking argument is stronger (as they've been pushing the voice acting), but I doubt Lucasarts would allow hordes of armor-wearing wookiees. On the other hand, most players would hate the lack of customization of appearance that would happen without visible armor (Since they've also shown a *lot* of unique item sets).

I think the non-basic speaking argument is now moot.
*Spoiler alert*
If any of you have seen the gamplay trailer, they show a... Weequay, I believe, who was an NPC, but spoke in Huttese, with translated Basic along the bottom of the screen, much like most of the alien species in the KOTOR games.
Also, on the note of armour, remember Zaalbar in KOTOR 1 and Hanharr in KOTOR 2. They could not wear human clothing/armour/visors. In WOW, they have certain items which are class-specific (Rogue bandanas spring to mind). Is it so much to expect a similar system, but make it race-specific instead?
