Greetings all,

New Features!

The analysis engine has been released! My first start at an Analysis engine is now live. From the main page select Combat Parser, paste in your log, click Parse Log and BAM!

You can see stats across all fights, per fight, per character per fight, and stats per character per fight per source or target. This already should answer a lot of questions for people, and my work has just begun. This will be expanded in the coming days to include even more stats, but these basics were my first stop.

Original Post:
I've created a simple combat log parser which can be posted a log, and will return JSON objects for use on any website. It can be found at :

http://swtor.apphb.com

A simple View Source on the website will show how you can write very simply JavaScript routines to do any sort of analysis you'd like. If you find issues with the parsing (I believe I've found most already) then you can post an issue at github.com where the source is hosted:

https://github.com/trayburn/SWTOR.Parser

For those who care, it's written in C# using ASP.NET MVC but since the web speaks JSON I've focused on delivering the data that way for right now. I'll be expanding the website over the next few days to include actual analysis tools, but just this much should be of use to a lot of people.

Not JSON.. anything but JSON!....<grin, wink>

So question.. how much work would it be turn the information into a graph so you could see your DPS/HPS/Threat over time?

Not a great deal of work from my perspective, I've just not quite gotten there, but that is next. You'd want to run through the entries, organize them by e.source and them look for e.event.effect == damage. From there, it's just a matter of using a good javascript graphing library which their are multiple.

I hope to have it within a week. just baby steps.

Tim

It seems to be choking on some logs when I submit them (essentially, nothing happens). Do you see error logs, or is there a way to have errors displayed?

Alpha,

Send me the log in question. The only limits I've encountered is you can't push beyond a 4mb log currently. I don't have any logging setup on it yet.

Thank you AlphaAnt for the log file, this bug has now been fixed and the website has been redeployed.

Is this now robust enough to link to from the wiki and go live with?

Absolutely I think so, all current features will be supported ongoing, and the hosting is setup with a rock solid cloud provider called AppHarbor who can handle any traffic we throw their way. Feel free to cross link, mention on podcast, give me feature requests, etc.

Unless you have any objections, I'm gonna throw it up on /r/swtor and solicit feedback from them too.

I will post my own feedback on presentation later today, when I have gotten a chance to play around with it.

Feedback time from the annoying QA dude... <grin, wink>

First off if this is the initial version I can't wait for the pretty one

I think most of my feedback is going to go toward what will make the pretty one a Homerun.... most of these I'm sure you have already thought about but perhaps I can sneak one or two in. And since we have already talked about the graphical version I'm not going to even mention it. <wink>

1. Create a Party List Tab with a sortable list of all participant in so we can compare everyone's information side by side. (the individual detail right now is spot on I think)
2. How hard would it be for each of the abilities listed to have min/max/ave values with them?
3. As Source and As Target need better names to make it clearer to the lay user what they are.. Like Outgoing and Incoming
4. Totals and Averages need to be move around so things are together instead of separate columns
5. Once you are in a parse there isn't an easy way to set things up to parse a new log...

BTW... any idea how close you have to be to party member to capture their information in a fight?

I think the only things that end up in your log are things where you are the caster or the target. If ally B heals ally C, they could be literally on top of you and not end up in your log.

So then I guess the better question since everyone has to take their own log... is there a easy way to time sync logs and combine them?
