Another thing I noticed: The 6 least-played ACs are all non-saber classes, and only 2 out of the top 10 are non-saber classes. Just goes to show that when you let people play a Jedi/Sith in Star Wars, pretty much all of them will. :P

Blame the mechanics. I just started playing SWTOR this week, so I've only tried out the trooper and councilor classes so far. Trooper I've been excited about since the game was announced.

Playing it through level 10 though... just wasn't that exciting. Maybe some of it is because I've been playing a lot of Mass Effect... and the ranged combat systems aren't even comparable. In one, I run, dodge fire, find cover and use tactics to take out the enemy. In the other, I stand there and take it like a beast, as I don't think that actually moving while firing has any defensive bonuses (please correct me if I am wrong). I might not mind it so much if when you moved into Melee range, people either backed up or switched weapons.

While the game styles are very different (standard MMO vs FPS hybrid), I just haven't found that the ranged combat system is at all interesting.

You're very right. Playing through the whole ME series again has actually made me feel kind of meh about a lot of elements of TOR.

Also, I will assume that players on PvP servers just spacebar their way through the storyline, so it really has no effect on the class bias.

Ummm... no? I've been and known plenty of Roleplayers who are on PVP servers. I actually feel that PvP servers give you a more authentic RPing experiance, as you don't have magical flags that prevent the enemy from attacking you.

A Sith Master meets a Jedi Padawan in the woods.... and all he can do is wave to him because there isn't a PvP flag? Some of my best RP stories come from being on a WoW PvP server where guilds would have open world combat against each other and attempt to take over towns or other areas, building a story of battle between the two factions that had nothing to do with in game quests.

For me, you'll find just as much people that care about story on a PvP server as you would a PvE server. Only the special RP servers may care more, as they will stay in character outside of quest options.

I think it comes down to personal preference... I "personally" do not like the melee combat in SWTOR and love combat at ranged both at as my 50 Gunslinger and 35 Trooper... both class gets more interesting over time... Gunslinger at high level is alot more like a FPS that any other class... as you dodge in and out of cover both portable and solid... firing shots on the move.

The mobs at low level are also not very smart... as you get into higher levels you will find mobs that like melee and will drag your ranged butt in closer and you have to get out of there quick... and Ranged Mobs that if you get in their faces they will knock you back or retreat to cover.

Bioware was smart to start combat simple at low level and build up. Most classes rotation at high level are fun and complex.. involving procs, crits and positioning to use to max effect.

It gets much more fun the more time you put into the game...

MMO game mechanics are a yawn fest. If not for the story, I doubt I would have managed to get my Smuggler to 50, and I certinally wouldn't be sticking around to play all the other classes.

As it is, every time I boot up TOR now, it's almost out of a sense of obligation. I look at the loading screen, and say in my head, "Alright, not-Mass-Effect, let's get this over with."

I've heard on podcasts people talking about how intense they get during MMO combat, with the heavy breathing and sweat beading their forehead, and I just can't fathom it.

Regarding the infographic, right now I have my Scoundrel that I played through before starting any other characters; a Vanguard; an Operative that will also be a healer; and a Jedi Knight whom I started a while ago but haven't got to the point where it's time pick an advanced class, though I was leaning towards Gaurdian. Not sure any of that actually says anything about me or my playstyle.

Most of my intense MMO encounters came from when I playing WoW and the 40 man raids were still around (and super hard). Trying to get 40 people to all dance to the same beat to take down the boss... can be intense. Much more so when you barely succeed and there are only about 10 people standing at the end of the fight.

Mechanics are rarely that intense in an MMO.... that usually comes when you get in over your head :D
