The first I'm hearing of this, and it's also the first I'm hearing of WotC holding the licence for HP games. I like the fact that this exists, and the simplicity is refreshing. This looks like something that may even pull my younger sisters into roleplaying... Possibly. I would like run a game of this at some point, it looks like a nice game to just throw down for a try one night.

I GMd (I mean HMd) for two friends- we just wanted to try it out. Anyway, long story short, we're up until about 3 am and everyone lived it. This game breeds good times and squashes put Munchkinism. Even the most hard core gamer in our group found himself spending 5 Galleons on candy for no reason other than RP.

Being a Potterverse fan, I'll have to give this a look.

I might have to try and get this to be a gateway rpg for a few people I know. Though I am curious how you would DM a game session in this. I know the books cover a lot of stuff through out the whole year and much of it is them in class learning stuff. Would you do that or just confine it to a few isolated event throughout the year?

I know the books cover a lot of stuff through out the whole year and much of it is them in class learning stuff. Would you do that or just confine it to a few isolated event throughout the year? The story I ran starts about five years before the books. In first year, they caught a theif in Hogsmeade. In second year, they might discover that one of the Professors is an imposter, be framed and wrongfully sent to Azkaban, be enchanted by Voldemorts spirit and have to fight him off, face a minor Dark Wizard (like a shopkeeper in Knockturn Alley) or just about anything else you can think of. You could also set the story in America or some other non European country, or during a different time period- maybe a few years before Voldemort starts at Hogwarts, or even in Medeival times. The trick is to set up something important and dramatic, that will affect lots of other people but that Harry wouldn't necessarily know about.

I decided to expand on this a bit with Broomstix- The Climax Edition, a two or three page expansion made up of a few house rulesets. I tried not to complicate things too much, only to add a few rules here and there for more 'dramatic' gameplay if anyone wants to see this, I can try and post it but I'm not sure it'll work as my computer is being a little glitchy
