Cantina Rats thank you!

I just got back from the WotC forums where I made the unfortunate decision to read a thread that just disgusted me. It was started by a long-time member of the forums and basically was about one of the most hate filled, vile pieces of internet trash I've read from a very small minded, loud mouth that would rather complain about what he didn't get than appreciate what he did.

I know one of the joys of the internet is that we can say what we will with a large sense of anonmity (sp?), but to be so negative to a company that, yes - wasn't perfect - but show me what is, gave us 5 years of fun, excitement and allowed us to make new friends.

He is a sad, little person.

I'm happy to be here, on the d20radio forums where we can be positive, upbeat and have fun. Life is too short and filled with too many negative things already to berate and belittle the things we do care about and people that try to do us right or create something for us to enjoy and purchase.

I'm staying right here, Cantina Rats, with the people I'm honored to call friends. You.

I saw that thread (and posted in it as well)
I have been with the game since rebel storm...i have seen WOTC treatment of the fans/customers. I may not have liked everything they did to/for the game but if it irked me so much i would have gotten out of the game and sold my figures. That did not happen and I continue to have fun with the product they produced.

I, like many, enjoy it here and am glad the D20 radio is a place that is positive. I tell as many as possible to give this community a try and i am sure they will like it.

I have written this post 3 times now and have started over in an attemt to keep with the thread and be positive....

I hadn't been on the WOTC forum for ages (I'm Darth__Jim there) but after reading this I had to go find that thread. The person starting that thread has been someone who really has given a lot to the game. He is a good player with a lot of innovative ideas, and is still contributing to the game. He is also what I'd call a 'glass half empty' kind of person. His posts over the years usually have a negative inclination to them if not completely dark and even when he's right (which he is quite often) I find him hard to read. This thread for example...part way through he says he didn't intend the thread to be one where people were taking shots at WOTC, yet thats exactly what he did at the beginning. I really don't understand why he started the thread...to send a message to WOTC? To vent? Waste of time as far as I'm concerned. That kind of a post really doesn't bring the community together, which is what we need right now. While I feel his frustration to an extent, I agree with you all that this was unnecessary.

Things have gone badly for me lately, and I am down with regards to the game. I organized the Maryland regional, and had great numbers and everything was in place...until the store owner closed the store with no warning at all. It has left me scrambling trying in vain to secure another venue. So...when I say I understand his frustration, I really do. Still, I'm not going to rant and rave in a public forum lambasting the store owner...and I really don't understand why Dennis chose to waste his and others time and energy when it could be put to positive use. To all of you who are remaining positive...good for you. You will be the reason that Star Wars Miniatures lives on. Thank you.

The difference is you are not blaming WOTC for that. He blames wotc for everything. If things dont move at "boris" speed then he flames up the boards. He is a huge reason i dont post there much...but have more now that he's migrated elsewhere.

I think that sucks what happend to the venue. You will find somewhere new if you haven't already. As Qui-Gon Jinn told Obi Wan Kenobi in Ep 1, "A solution will present itself."

Keep on truckin

Well, not to hijack the thread but what Joe said came to fruition. My regional will be a much smaller affair but we will have it in Pa. But...in keeping with the topic, the reason I am still judging a regional is because of the positive thinking of one person...Dean Mller. He has come though in so many tangible ways, even to listening to me patiently as I whine on the phone. Ironically, Dean was one of the negative posters in the aforementioned thread. That just shows that there sometimes is more to a person than what they post. Dennis has always reminded me of 'Eeyore' in Winnie the Pooh. He has done a lot for the game...creating the 'Dynamic Duo' event, for example. But his work is sometimes lost in the haze of his negative posts.

I am a 'glass half full' kind of person. So are Teny and Brev and Duggie in my opinion. These forums reflect that. Despite my interest in the competitive side of this game, you all...GMs and posters alike...capture the enjoyable aspect of the game that is sometimes lost on the WOTC or BlooMilk boards. Listening to the podcast or frequenting these forums is like sitting in your favorite recliner and sipping a cold beverage while watching Episode IV. I think we all need that, especially now. I feel sorry for people like Dennis who seem to live to complain and miss the fun and sheer enjoyment of what Star Wars used to be...and still can be...for us.

well Jim I wasnt actually being negative.

The fact is that I dont think Wizos can keep the forums up past may. They be able to till August.

One of the things I am trying to hurry an do is secure the DCI Rankings. Because of my position as DCI Content Manager I have been told some things from Reid. One of the things is come May 31 Wizards will pretty much be done with Star Wars.

We are currently having to negotiate the prize support for Gencon with him because he cannot wait until August. We have to do it now because of the License expiring with Lucas Film.

I was more or less trying to let folks know without just outright saying it.

I think people as a whole should be positive. I mean you have had your entire Risk game and your entire chess game for years. Do you still enjoy playing? Well now you finally have your entire Star Wars Minis collections it took years to get. It should provide years of entertainment.

I am going to stay positive because we have the best gaming community out there. I also know there are a couple of chances of someone else picking the game up and not only getting the license but buying the game mechanic from wizos. I really would love to see this pan out.

But if not we will do the v-sets and I will continue to do Gencon until people stop showing up. Otherwise we are having fun.

Dean, I'm glad to see you on the d20radio boards, sir. Always happy to have a fellow podcaster and lover of the game. And one day...ONE day, I will make it to GenCon.

I know we at d20radio (at least Minis Mayham) are working on something to help out the SWM players as well. Something...special. We're not ready to roll it out just yet, but I think it's something everyone will enjoy. (Stay tuned!)

I'm intigued about the V-Sets and can't wait to see what you guys come up with. I know I have a few ideas for at least some fun and different Special Abilities that could really spice things up.

Anyway, glad to see you here and good luck this year with the Regionals, GenCon, and the Floor Rules.
