Seems like they're going with a 40K-esque, tight thematic and setting focus. I don't particularly like that approach paired with Star Wars. I want total openness to different eras, story types, and character groups.
But then, I guess Saga is already serving that need brilliantly. So why not?

Very tempted to order my own copy; I've got it sitting on the checkout page right now! But the shipping is crazy high.

Yeah, I'm less than stoked when it comes to the proposed release material, especially if it means that Force-users aren't playable right out of the gate. I mean, they're only one of the most iconic aspects of Star Wars.
I'll stick with a "wait and see" approach, since what's out there right now is just a beta and information is pretty light on the ground at the moment.
That said, this game is really gonna have to knock my socks off for me to make the change from SWSE to yet another new SWSE system. Still, I am relieved that (so far) they seem to be avoiding the WFRP3 "psuedo-boardgame" set-up.

I think GM Dave already has his hands on one.
I pulled the trigger. Looking forward to getting my hands on it when it arrives. Shipping is a bit rough for sure.

Yeah, ordered a copy myself.
Not exactly enthused given the press release suggests a rather narrow focus, especially for the premiere book. I can understand the concerns about Force-users being "too powerful" (it's something that's plagued Star Wars RPGs in every edition), but making one of the most iconic character types in the entire property unavailable right out the gate isn't the best way to solve the problem and have a happy gaming audience. Even d6 (which was based almost entirely in the Rebellion Era) allowed for PCs to start as Force-users; yeah, you paid through the nose for it, but you could do it, and it did take a while for d6 Force-users to reach the "trouble zone" of them constantly outshining other PCs.
Shipping Option I took was Priority Mail, which means two to three days after it ships, so I'm not surprised it's as expensive as it is, especially given how quickly they look to be wanting to get these into the hands of consumers.

my question is if we shell out the cash for the beta will we get the final release for free? no one in my group of gamer friends are willing to even touch the beta till that questions answered.
also from what ive read on there site.....its doesn't bod well in my personal taste of games, like the same reason i didn't like there warhammer fantasy RPG. rebellion era focus, and no jedi at first? im on the fencing leaning back till some one i know mans up.

The beta book gets you nothing else. No sign-up sheet, nothing. Well, it does include a bunch of dice stickers to construct the custom dice that are required.

I sat and waffled over whether or not I wanted to order one for a good hour before I finally pulled the trigger myself. $30 plus at least another 30% in shipping is hard to swallow, especially for what is, despite what they say, an unfinished game that could change between now and next year.
Still, I know I'll hate myself more if I don't jump on it and miss getting one, so, there you have it. May as well be as informed as I can for when the full price game comes rolling out the gate next year.
Plus, knowing that a developer that I respect as much as Sterling Hershey worked on it helps to soften that financial blow a little bit.

I'll wait for the finished game to come out before making any real final decision on it. But I'm not going to buy a Beta copy. No way.
