Hey Ladies and Gents,
I hope this isn't a double up of another thread, I just need help with the area of weapon weights/handling if possible.
After reading through weapon sizes in the core rules on page 120 I still found it to be very vague. I know that the weapon tables state the sizes of weapons though how can I tell if it's usable with two hands or if it's a light weapon or not? (Common sense?) For example when reading the Lightsaber info it doesn't tell me much about it's actual size. I'm guessing it can be used two handed but does it gain double the STR modifier on damage rolls? (I thought I'd read this somewhere) Because on page 145 it states that the double STR modifier doesn't apply to two-handed light weapons. At only 1kg wouldn't it be a light weapon?
Is there any way to use the weights shown to divide up weapon weights (light weapon etc)? If so what weight categories would you class light weapons as? (1kg and under? Less then 1kg)
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

If it's one size catergory or smaller than the wielder then it's a light weapon. If it's a size catergory bigger than the wielder then it must be held in two hands, any bigger and you need a tripod. Rifles also need to be held in two hands regardless of size.

Thanks GMonfire. So the lightsaber gets its 2xSTR as it's shown as a "Medium" weapon? Meaning a Short lighters wouldn't for for any but a Small creature ie an Ewok? If that's the case does that mean all the Medium sized melee weapons can be held two-handed (Virbroblade, Mace, Spear, Bayonet)? That makes perfect sense actually. Maybe I'm just looking at it too hard or the completely wrong way, cheers!

Shoto lightsabers, which is what I think you mean by "short ightsabers," are usable by Medium as well as Small characters. Medium PCs use them in a two weapon style, paired with the normal size lightsaber.

What I think he meant is that the shoto wouldn't get the x2 Str bonus to damage for being weilded two-handed by a medium-sized creature, and that is correct.

Thanks guys. Yeah I get that Shoto lightsabers could be used as medium weapons by small size creatures and how they work etc, thanks though. Cheers for clearing that up DarthGM.
Wow, I think I'm an idiot... The sizes are all down the left hand side of the items themselves... So the lightsaber is a Medium weapon and the Shoto is a Small/light weapon (matching up with creature sizes). How did I miss that...?
Still wondering though, are ALL medium sized melee weapons usable two-handed?

For example, a large creature treats a medium weapon as a light weapon - and gains zero benefit from wielding it two-handed. Though they "can" wield it with both hands (the same way a human can wield a vibro-dagger with both hand, at zero benefit). Small creatures must ALWAYS wield a medium weapon with two hands.
