I'm picking your collective brains here.
What clever names have you come up with for droids. Both nicknames and their "in-verse" official designations.

various R2s/R5s as Goldie, Red, Whistler, Sparks
I've used KC-3E called Casey
I liked the RX pilot series as Capt. Wrecks
C1-10P = Chopper
etc...

Well, I had an idea some time ago for an ape-like loader droid somewhat based on T1-LB "Elbee" from the KotOR comic series. He specializes in throwing heavy objects at opponents, goes by DK-81 "Deekay". (Donkey Kong debuted in 1981.) The Commando spec provides him with a nice array of skills (particularly Athletics, Resilience, Brawl, Melee, and Ranged Heavy), and he heads directly for the Strong Arm talent to increase the range of his load-launcher capabilities, while an integrated Riot Shield just makes his innate toughness even more difficult to overcome. (You could also build him as a Bodyguard if you wanted to emphasize him using himself as a shield for his more squishy allies.)

My current hotshot pilot has an R4 astromech called R4-BD "Beedee", which isn't so much a joke as a reference to Twiki the Robot from the old Buck Rogers series in the 80s. (He had a tendency to precede anything he said with "beedee beedee beedee!")

EC-H0 a droid that had multiple copies of himself
B4-NG the mechanic droid for a pilot nicknamed 'Crash'

B1-529TX "Tex", a refitted B1 battle droid with his speed and accuracy pushed to the limits of droid capabilities.

BA-MX1 "Baymax", a prototype personal health care assistant droid whose creator was killed in an accidental fire.

000-BRT "Black Bart", a droid pirate who's been terrorizing the space lanes, stealing ships and equipment and spacing the "inferior" organics within.

XR-9X2-3X "Triple X", a rogue sports droid who is an outspoken and sometimes violent advocate for droid rights. The Empire offers him amnesty and full citizenship if he will infiltrate a Rebel cell for them...

4P-NE "Penny", an astromech who uses her encyclopedic knowledge and slicing skills to keep her master, a bumbling detective, safe.

Alternatively, Techs, a technical droid reprogrammed to act as the marshal of a dusty rim world.

What not animal companion/partner?

I love these references.

Baraane is a wookiee and resents being referred to as an "animal".

And thanks!

The Detective is more machine than man, now... Twisted and... well... not evil. Kind of stupid, but he was already that before...

I personally like the names that are an actual pronunciation of the designation (or a modification thereof) or just a regular nickname unrelated to designation, more than I like 'leet speak' or 'looks abbreviated' type names.

That is to say, I'd rather have a droid named 22-RC 'Arcee' or R6-C1 'Sparks' than something like G1-LZ 'Giles' or HN-GS 'Hinges'.

Designations:
R2-6T 'Sixty' (you can do the same with 4 or any digit above 6)
AC-12 'Ace'
G4-UL 'Yule'
1B-T 'Betty' (potentially 'Nurse Betty' since it's a 1B)
G2-1W 'Dub'
T1-K9 'Dog'
R2-G5 'Quint'

Nicknames:
Victor
Rusty
Twitch
Riggs
etc.
