Hello everyone, I built a content and character builder to Star Wars: Edge of the Empire.

It was developed in .NET (sorry mac users) and requires .NET 4.0 to run. Simply download the zip file and run the executable. No installer needed. This project is in Beta and is by no means fully polished, so I expect users will find bugs and issues. PLEASE report them to me in the suggestions document I have provided or on these forums. I would also like to hear your suggestions for what I should add next.

A final note, and an important one, I will not be releasing any FFG content for this builder. You will have to generate it yourselves and all content can be created from within the builder (but feel welcome to create and share your own content with the community). Please ask if something is unclear or you cannot find a way to build a piece of content and I will do my best to assist you.

To use the sample characters, unzip them into the same directory as the executable. Then run the executable and they should be there.

Jason,

Thank you very much for posting this on our forums, and for the rest of the gamer nation, we have been honored to help a little bit in the final design of this concept, and when I say a little bit, I mean a VERY LITTLE BIT. This this was awesome when he showed it to us a month or two ago, and it continues to be awesome.

Fantastic work on this!

**upgraded to global announcement**

When I'm trying to add a new specialisation it stops working.
I managed to add a species though - although the Traits section doesn't seem to be available.

I'm running it on windows 8 - if that matters.

I've found the problem in specializations and I am working on fixing it for the next build. For the time being, first create a "Skills" folder in the same folder as the .exe (this will also stop the skill pane from crashing due to the same bug).

Traits will be available when you enter them in the "Traits" header in the menu along the top.

EDIT: I just posted a version with that fix in it and updated the change log. If you get the new version, you should not get that crash.

1) Wounds and Strain is not calculated correctly - it doesn't seem to take characteristics starting values into account, only advancements added.

2) The Main tab doesn't show anything - but that might be intentional.

3) Is there a character sheet print out function? I know its early stuff, I just wondered :)

Drat... I just rewrote the algorithm that calculates... well everything and it looks like I missed part of it. I will get on Correcting the problem with the thresholds right away.

Yes, the main page is empty right now. I had plans for it at one time and they have drifted by the wayside.

Sorry, no printing available right now, but I hope to have that functionality one day.

EDIT: The bug with the thresholds was really easy to fix so I posed a new version with the fix in it. Thanks for letting me know!

I understand that this is a somewhat complex tool, but it will be very powerful once you get the hang of it. I think it will be safe enough if I were to create the two pregen characters available from the support page of the Beginners game. They will be available as a separate zip file when they are completed.

I have just uploaded a new version with a minor tweak and the two sample characters from the Beginner Game.

I must say that this tool is awesome already!

I'm looking forward to test it further - tomorrow perhaps, to night is game night :)

I'll post further feedback once I've tested it more :)

Very cool. I haven't had a chance to play around with it a whole lot, but this looks like it's going to be a heck of a program for those of us with a design bent.

Thanks Cyril, custom content design was one of my main motivations in the overall design of this application. In fact it is done in such a way that I could likely do this same sort of thing for many other games.

This looks awesome, but I'm having problems. Might be just me, and my stupidity (most likely is), but when I try to start a new character, the menu for races has nothing listed or that I can select. Any suggestions?

I downloaded .NET 4.0 and installed, but maybe there is something with that which may be the issue?

Thanks!

Everything else in the builder looks awesome, I'm having fun tinkering around.

From what I gather, and this is just from plaing with it (I rarely read instructions first, go figure) you have to add everything yourself. So, first you'd go to the Races tab and input that info, and any other info on the other tabs.

I, too, am stuck though. I read your Tips, but I still can't get the Talents to work right, nor can I get weapons to work properly either. I'm probably just not putting the right number or option somewhere, though...

Ah, that would make sense. Guess I have a little work to do. :-D

What exactly are you stuck on? If you walk me through what you are trying to do, I am sure I can help you get there.

Also, have you tried getting the sample characters I posted? They should have some decent examples showing how to accomplish many of the features.
