Welcome to a climatic episode of Threat Detected. The heroes corner their prey, Darga the Hutt in his yacht. Will they go medieval on his tail? We begin our conversation with Star Wars Game Designer Sterling Hershey and feature original Star Wars music by Rod Johnson.

Just finished listening to episode 9. Wow.
The Gungan children being held as food I found particularly disturbing; both as a father, and as a guy who’s playing a Gungan in my home game.
One quibble though, if the children really were trussed up like crustacians in the tank at Red Lobster with their hands and feet bound, they would have drowned. Gungan’s can’t breath water like a Mon Cal, they’re just really good at holding their breath.
As for additions, once the ship started pitching and tilting, it seems like the perfect time to add a fire hazard. Some flammable lubricant or cleaning supplies gets up ended by the ship’s bucking then met with a spark from a missed shot, and suddenly the bridge turns into a barbeque grill!

Yeah, that's one of many problems with "reality" this episode had. Love the fire idea. You can't have enough explosions.

I think that this whole encounter/session, which began in episode 8 with the arrival at Darga's hangar and will end in episode 10, may have been the most fun we've had at the table. There was a ton of stuff happening, there was great roleplaying on all fronts, and all the right points were hit in terms of tension and drama.

Particularly for me as Tor, I found the session to be full of interesting things. Setting out on an angry rampage due to Tor's homeworld being destroyed led to a lot of cool things. I agree with you about the Gungan children scene being disturbing Hawv. Especially considering that part of Tor's answers for the "what do you love" question of the famous three questions I put that he is very protective of children because of their innocence, what they represent in the Force, and how they are sponges for learning. The Gungan children being cooked led to to continue fuelling Tor's anger.

However, (and I think this is one of the great subtle roleplaying consequences that shows the result of the dark side) Tor's anger ultimately led to the children being killed. Since Tor was so driven by the dark side, he ignored the children to make a beeline for Darga instead of rescuing the children immediately and I found that whole situation fascinating as a player. It just goes to show that if you roleplay your character, amazing things will happen.

I won't give anything away, but there will be some further interesting developments that have some long term effects in the wrap up to this encounter in the next episode.

Another good game session, guys. I was impressed by the creativity with respect to the changes in the Hutt's Hangar particularly with bringing the combat on board and by making the entire ship a hazard. I just might have to lift some ideas for my game...

I look forward to listening to the next installment. I am wondering if your group will be attempting to save the slaves on the Shackles of Nizon.

Garrett, thanks for having Mr. Hershey on your show. It was an excellent interview.

Sometimes the things you think you hear are much more interesting than the things you actually hear.

Just after the opening scrawl and the introduction of the characters, at about 17:45, the dialogue seems to go something like this:

"I'm half tempted to run up to him and grab him and just have the rest of the party beat the living snot out of him."

"I'm like two sizes larger than he is, it just might work.

"Exactly."

"I need to buy tube socks."
