I like to listen to the Companion section of the podcast, but I don't want to hear the spoilers in the Chronicles section. However, by going to the end of the podcast and backing up 30 seconds at a time on the 13th episode, I found that there were non-spoiler announcements and such added AFTER the Chronicles. Is there anyway you can list in the show notes the time stamp for when the spoilers end, so that I can skip ahead and still listen to the non-spoiler stuff? Either that, or can the Chronicles section be after all the announcements and before the Red Wine and Vicodin playout? I don't want to miss anything, but I don't want to hear anything I'm not supposed to. Help me out here, guys!

Thanks!

They are not announcements, but there can be "news" at the end of the podcast during the outro, yes.

Yes, we do it -- and while we really try to avoid doing it -- the fact is that it isn't going to stop and from time to time it is going to suck for those who don't want to listen to the review but want to get to the outro.

So, here's how all of this happens and why.

It takes a long time for us to record all of the ten or eleven segments of a show. We use the intro segment to deal with most of those "news" issues. And by "news", I mean things that have happened since we last released an episode of the podcast in the world of Pathfinder RPG up until the date we record the intro. That's "hang time #1"

We try and leave the date we record the intro relatively late in the development cycle, but shit happens. Sometimes, (Episode 15 is a good example), where there is a good long gap of a few weeks in between where we recorded the intro and when we actually got the episode released. The longer the hang time, the more time there is for things to happen.

The absolute last segement we record for the episode is always the Outro. Ususally, we record it only after 80% plus of the episode has been fully edited, too -- never mind recorded. Depending upon production times, that may only be a few days after we record the intro (so it's all good and the outro is usually short)... and sometimes it isn't. Sometimes the editing process is long and the intro is a few weeks old by the time we get done with all the editing and recording of the rest of the podcast.

The longer the podcast episode is, the longer the hang time between recording the intro and recording the outro usually is -- because it takes longer to edit. While that isn't always true (mainly due to when we record the intro) -- it is almost always true as a rule of thumb.

When there is a longer hang time in between the recording of the intro and the outro -- we deal with whatever new issues have cropped up between those two dates that we want to talk about on the outro. That's "hang time #2"

That's not going to stop and all indications are from listeners is that they like the outro. The outro also tends to be FAR more chatty and relaxed and far less formal. In many case, it's because we are finally relaxing as the episode is almost entirely done and we're a little tired. (Often the outro is recorded within 24-48 hours before the episode is released and we know we are almost done getting it out the damn door.)

As I have kidded Azmyth about -- he hates podcasting but loves having "podcasted". (Closer to the mark, he hates editing, but loves having edit_ed_.)

So, yeah we know it sucks and it isn't the best way of handling things. But in all of the circumstances, it's still the best available way of dealing with things that crop up during the production cycle.

If we didn't edit our podcast and just did the thing live on a Sunday night and encoded it as a mp3 and uploaded a la Order 66 -- we'd call it a post show and there would be no need to deal with news at the end of an live episode as there wouldn't have been any hang time during which things could have happened.

However, we aren't a 90 minute live show posted without editing like Order 66 is. We are a four to five+ hour show that is **heavily** edited with 3-5 guests per episode and 7 staff members. It's a much longer show and it takes a long time to do it and so the Outro content will continue to include news elements from time to time. Sorry about that -- but at least now you know why.

OK, so I now know why. Could the start time for the "post show" be listed in the show notes so I can skip ahead to that point and listen to that portion of the show? That seems like an easy fix. I don't mine shuttling ahead to that point. I just need to know where to stop.

Good example: I just got through listening to episode 16, and the final 45 minutes of the show were completely spoiler free. Plus, it was information that players as well as GM's would appreciate. I'd love to pick up one of those sets of the pirate figures, and I wouldn't have known about them but for the fact that I discovered all of this hidden content at the end of the 'cast. I also appreciated the information on the Beginner Box pawns/tokens. I haven't bought the BB yet, but knowing it comes with a selection of these 2D minis makes me want it even more. (I'm already a fan of the paper minis.)

Anyway, I don't want to come off like I'm complaining. I love the podcast, and I can't wait to hear more. I just don't want to miss a minute of the spoiler-free content.
