Been playing around with a build -- and this one is most definitely not done. With a high bluff and improved feint, he's all about feinting in combat, while still capable of attacking at range every round with a pistol.
I'm definitely feeling feat/talent starved though. The below is just a trial build to level 7, in the same manner as we do on the CCW.
Gaston de Ratan
Gaston is from a noble family from Galt, where his family has been thoroughly dispossessed in the Revolution. His Uncle's ancestral lands were seized and he was left penniless and destitute. His claims to nobility are a sham -- which drives Gaston all the more to pretend and ACT like he is a noble -- or at least, as he thinks a noble should act. Gaston does not know if any of his family survived, and from time to time, when drunk, he
almost threatens to care about whether any of them have. When he sobers up, he comes back to his senses.
While he has been cast down in the muck along with all the rest, Gaston pretends that has not happened. He is, accordingly, a pretentious fop who acts like he is better than everyone else and goes out of his way to remind them of it,
daily. To prove his obvious Blue Blood and to remind everyone around him he is better than they are, he wears pretentious parade armor, complete with a silk brocade on the front, epaulettes on the shoulders and, to complete the effect, he insists upon wearing a powdered wig, even in dreadful heat.
Gaston is, at heart, a villain who somehow finds himself on the side of people who aren't completely villainous. As he thinks that his comrades will think him not a "noble" if he shows his true colors, he pretends to be concerned about truth and light and all the rest. He will, if presented the opportunity, cheer on Desna, Seranrae, Erastil or any other of the Gods of light and pretend to be pious when he supposes that is what a "proper noble" would say.
Gaston pretends to be Lawful Neutral (if not Lawful Good.) If confronted in public over a choice, he will generally suggest a lawful -- if not good -- course of action.
In reality, he doesn't believe a single word of it. He does it because he believes that's what a "true noble" is expected to do or say. However, when mercy and altruism get too much in the way, he regretfully cites some law or code as preventing mercy or altruism in those particular circumstances. He acts truly sorry, too. Then he does what's in his best interest while apologizing for it.
Gaston is an an even more outrageous liar with women. He is a handsome and knows it. As a womanizer he will do or say anything which lets him under a woman's skirts. There is no promise too extreme that he will not make when a woman is involved. Then, he'll quickly find a way to weasel out of whatever the promise was.
He has two redeeming features.
Firstly, as Gaston's Uncle was betrayed during a fight by his own men, Gaston believes it is the nadir of nobility to betray a companions-in-arms while on the battlefield --
for any reason. A brother-in-arms must be treated always as a brother -- at least until the fight is over.
Secondly, he believes that only a true peasant would harm a woman and he will not willingly attack a human female under almost any conceivable circumstances. This is the other positive aspect of his character which is sincere. He doesn't do it merely for show -- he won't even do it in private, either.
In his looks, attitude and comportment, he resembles Archibald Cunningham (played by Tim Roth) in the film
