The entry on the ship does say it's one of the few to be fully equipped with cannon...

Started grinding off the nubbins this weekend, goes pretty quick, but is boring and stinky. Im going to cut away the filler parts on the bottom deck and glue the decks/sections together, then patch hole and start laying in the decking! I'll take some pics and post a link.

Did you Dremel it with a grinding cylinder or a cutting wheel?

My neighbor just picked up a dremmel from harbor freight for $8 or something ridiculous (worth picking up if you have one in your town), and I tried a few different grinding heads plus a cutting wheel. My preferred head is the cone shaped grinder, if you are holding the ship piece in one hand and the dremmel in the other, it makes it pretty easy to pass from right to left over the nubbin and remove it. The sphere shaped head also worked pretty well. The Cutting Wheel can work but its REAL easy to tag the side of the ship or stuff you dont want to get nicks in/on. Although I will use it for removing the built up megablok bits found in the bottom level of the ship, that reinforce the sides/joints, those can all get removed, as they did on the French site, I believe, all that will be left is the main timber running down the center of the boat. Thats really more work than will likely be useful, in use I dont envision pulling the levels apart and playing on them, that would probably be better handled just being drawn out on the battle mat or similar thing and realistically that level would be stuffed to the gills with cannons or livestock or other supplies, not real prime fighting space. Although that could be fun to say if you were below decks you had to fight as if squeezed or sharing a square all the time. In-Laws are in town so probably wont get a chance to work on it too much, we will see, I'll just try and take pics and post them.

Also, why the ban on Barbarians and Witches but not Summoners, Azmyth? I thought the unruliness of the Barb fit rather well with pirates, if you drop the fur fetish look. Edge of civilization, lack of education, survival of the fittest? No one from my groups played a witch yet, but been on the bad end of a confused super optimized Eidolon. yuck.

I do like the flavor of the Barbarian, but unfortunately that is not what motivates players to create them. I have watched Cleaving Barbarians ruin combat after bloody combat in PFS and we're digging in my sandbox (pun intended) now. You don't need a d12 hp, Rage and ridiculous damage output to capture the essence of the barbarian.

Witches (and their Hexes) are a very unbalanced mechanic set amok in the PFRPG. You might as well call it Psionics! As a [Super Natural] power set spell resistance is right out the window. Many saving throws can be nullified and durations extended with a secondary Cackle Hex. In a predominately urban setting, the Witch breaks games.

Furthermore, I have eliminated the Summoner, the Animal Companion and Mounts by ruling no secondary action economy management. I know it was a little less direct in my use of language but with seven players and a high level of role playing expected, it needed to be done.

I noticed the players brought up the Rage ability, like from a cleric domain, did you say that was legal? Is it Rage or just the combo of powers that tends to kill combat? Superstitious Barbarians are pretty insane, I agree. Our party had one, it got Dominated and it killed three party members before we killed him. Good times!

From the result of the audition it looks like you have a good mix of fun characters, if not overly well suited to compliment one another. Thats half the fun of playing, figuring out how to interact with the parties available powers/abilities. Makes players have to think more, be more creative with actions and equipment and even RP more/better.

Watched some of the Ship Buidling on Justin TV, the Stormchaser is looking good. Weird about the wood expanding, didnt know it would do that. I was going to use foam core as a base so hopefully I wont encounter that problem. I really like the styling on the Stormchaser, just dont like the ramming figure head thing, any plans on swapping that out? Azmyth, anything special planned for the paint job? You said you were gearing it for play/use so werent going to go crazy, but I wondered.

I picked up Pirates of the Inner Sea and one of the Pirates that caught my eye was the Shackles Druid Pirate Captain (dont have it in front of me) but she has a giant squid animal companion, and that really caught my imagination, so Im thinking I'll make one of the boats decorated for her. The idea of a druid pirate is really evocative in my mind. I see her taking ships and paying her crew their shares and then sailing the captured ships with summoned crew to a secret bay and scuttling the ships. Just sinking them and building a crazy ship graveyard, at least it'd be a cool place for PCs to encounter. PotIS also has some nice traits in it, looks fairly useful.

Im enjoying the Age of Worms play so far, some interesting characters for sure! How did Game of Thrones go? Still doing good stuff? It was last Sunday right? Obviously I dont have HBO and didnt see it. sigh.

Az,

Loved the Skull and Shackles session! Laughed my ace off.

What I couldn't see was if you decided to use the "Flying" stands for the masts or went with something different.

PS> I think Mr Plugg is just a misunderstood man who needs a hug and a Welsh accent.

;)

Best of Care,
St. Mac
