If you've got wizard problems I feel bad for you son, I've got 99 problems but preparing spells aint one!

When I play prepared casters I've never really had a problem with picking spells, you just need to do it carefully. Also make judicious use of scrolls. Your prepared spell should be things that you expect to need every day (battlefield control, damage spells, buffs/debuffs, summon monsters etc), and your scrolls should be things that you run into occasionally (tongues, open door etc).

Research, I like your house rules in theory and may implement them in the next campaign I run. In my games recently my players who are prepared casters have been whining a little bit about not knowing what to prepare for the day and your school of magic selection could help solve that.

In so far as increasing DCs what do you think about this? If a wizard has a spell from every school of magic memorized in the same spell level all DCs on spells he cast from that spell level are increased by 2 until he no longer has available spells in all schools of magic. This likely wouldn't come up until later levels, and even then will only be affecting lower level spells which need the help with DCs the most.

Also what do you mean about anything that would increase an attack roll would increase DCs. Are you saying that if you have the high ground (cause say, you are flying) your DCs will be +2? Or flanking? Could the caster benefit from team work feats in order to take advantage of that? Would this now be the case for all spell casting, so it would apply to a magus as well? Would weapon focus ray increase the DCs of rays? I think this is in theory a good idea, but may end up pumping DCs way to high.

Also, should the wizard's specialty play into it at all?
