Well what a day. I was able to get a day off work and so was everyone else so we had one big marathon day of gaming. The players continued on their quest inside the troll caves and come the an intersection explore ahead or turn they choice to go straight ahead and come into view of a large chamber with severed heads and two men tired to stakes in the ground and two trolls. But not ordinary trolls. These trolls look distinctively different they all laughed saying “they have a gave troll” (lord of the rings anyone) and were thrust into combat.

Deciding not to use some brain power they didn’t do a knowledge local check to determine why these trolls are different. Instead of being vulnerable to acid and fire, it was Cold and Sonic. Well the battle turned against them rather fast. The female human sorcerer (Natasha) cast summon pit and created a pit that a troll fell into. The other troll used a combat manoeuvrer call pull and pulled the oracle of battle into the pit where he promptly died from being torn apart.

The dwarf druid was critted twice in a row and dropped to -12 before stabilising, the oracle of nature healed him and when he got back up instead of retreating he reengaged the troll and was torn apart. (Second death). Having seen two allies die they managed to knock one of the trolls unconscious. Now in my game you can’t perform a coup de grace unless you can do lethal damage and in our game all damage done to a troll is nonlethal except from the vulnerability (cold and sonic) but the rogue come up with strangling it.

So the rogue tired up the troll in a way that its own body was killing it. It died from that and no one made a heal check to see if it was dead. SO they spent a half dozen rounds using acid splash on it. By which time the pit disappeared and the other troll attacked. With everyone hitting it, it too fell unconscious. Having the same problem that they couldn’t kill it. They stood there for a few minutes continuously hitting it. The bad guy of the trolls come investigating and saw some food walking around his cave so it attacked them.

Ripping the head off the unsuspecting rogue (thanks to a crit. Third death) the half elf Zen archer monk was dropped to single Hit points and with the two new people free they attacked. The troll was knocked unconscious not before reducing everyone to single figure hit points. Unable to kill it they retreated back to the city.

On returning to the city they found outside the city there was row upon row of grave mounds totalling 200. 200 people had died from the poisoned well that the evil halfing bard had done (i know in correct Grammar). Walking into the city they soon find that the city has been hit by disease and is sweeping throughout the city. They bury their dead and start to manage this new problem. The oracle of nature is but in charge (Orisi (i think that’s her name) the heartless) and begins to rule with an iron fist. The two new people they rescued from the trolls are a human cavalier and a human fighter.

The cavalier is from the order of the sword and rides his horse around the city on patrol trying to keep everyone inside. The oracle of nature has ordered no group larger than 20 shall gather together and so human druid come into the city seeing that the water was poisoned started using create water. Standing in the middle of the town he started to create water for everyone. A large group formed around him and soon attracted the attentions of the cavalier who come charging into the crowd and broke them up. The druid was taken to the oracle of nature who decided to make use of him and allowed him to do that and made him join the council.
Meanwhile the oracle of nature had moved into the oracle of battles former room and during the night a man keep sneaking into it and going through all the gear inside. One night the oracle was awoken from the cold wind and was someone riffling through her stuff. The intruder jumped out the window and escaped. The next day a man was dressed into a jugglers outfit and was entertaining a crowd of people. Only 19 people the cavalier stopped and waited until two more people joined it and charged into the crowd to break it up. Then attempted arrest the juggler. Using his quick wits the juggler run for it and managed to evade the cavalier and change into a disguise. The cavalier come past the man and asked if he saw a juggler run past (the man who is the juggler) failed a bluff check and was arrested and taken to the keep. The cavalier walked into the keep with a man and walked into the council cambers calling for the guards. Jhod the NPC cleric come out to investigate and saw the cavalier man-handling someone and ordering his execution.

Jhod is a Lawful good cleric walked up to him and ordered his release, the cavalier denied his request and so Jhod place him under Jhod protection as the High Priest it was his right. (Since anyone on the council is above the law he couldn’t be charged for treason or anything) a big argument broke out and got the attention of everyone. The cavalier was ordered by the oracle of nature to put the man in the stocks.

That night with the help of unknown figure he escaped. Since it was the start of the month the play did there kingly duties. Still having plague ravage the city. During this time they were introduced to a adventure that looked very familiar but could but there finger on it. It was the escaped prisoner from the stocks. As it turned out it was the oracle of battles cousin. Looking trustworthy (the gamers anyone) he was given a place on the council. (The new member is a human rogue)

After their kingly duties were finished they decided to adventure more. They went south past the hex with the trolls and into the hex with the forest drake. They attacked and kill the drake in one round but i had given it an ability to keep it alive for a round after it had taken enough to kill it. It used it corrosive breath and killed the cavaliers mount and damaged him but the human rogue escaped thanks to evasion.

They quickly dispatched the drake and took its head, the druid tried to skin it and only for enough for a small item. The next hex comes across the hill giant with a massive hangover. They heard the moons of pain and yelled out “Yohoo good sir” which in response throws a large rock at them. This started combat. The cavalier using a second mount from another player charged the giant and hit, then using ride by attack moved away, the cavalier has a elephant for an animal companion and it too attacked up missed (its only medium size which means he cant ride it yet) it was the hill giants turn and since the cavalier was gone wailed on the animal companion killing it. The next round saw the death of the giant thanks to a crit from the cavalier (doing something like x6 damage) they looted him and found a necklace with one gem on it.

They continued and come across the town of Margastone a empire has founded a city on this hex already. They investigated and found out that to the south an empire is also growing. They spent the night there and continued to the next hex. The last hex

Entering the hex they easily find a large cave entrance into a hill exploring inside they come across some violet mushrooms, the battle was short and the rogue was drained a lot of his str. Realising this he run out of the cave, but the oracle of nature had gotten to close to an opening and a shambling mound come charging out of it and a swarm of vermin. The battle was short no thanks to a crit fumble with knocked the shambling mound unconscious for 3 rounds. The cavalier tryed a coup de grace on it but survived the damage from that and the fort save (thanks Natural 20). The human druid moved away from the swarm and got too close to the opening to a anther chamber which held a HUGE very pissed off owlbear. The zen monk had moved away from the swarm and got attacked by some spiders soon they there over whelmed with monsters. The druid was hit and got grappled, the owlbear tore him apart (forth death) it charged towards the nearest enemy witch was the spiders it killed the first and the other spiders scattered from this monster. The human fighter attacked the owlbear and so did the Zen Archer and Cavalier.

The owlbear grabbed the human fighter and crushed him in a bears hug (fifth death), the Zen monk was next to die (Sixth Death) and then the cavalier decided to charge it hoping to kill it. But he too was torn from his mount and ripped asunder. (seventh death)
The two remaining surviving characters fled

The "cave troll" was all my idea. Most of my players use player knowledge so i change things around a bit. I told them that the troll was different from the others but they didnt listen. Plus the trolls are in the mod, i need to upgrade them due to having 8 players

whats wrong halamen??? i didnt go out of my way to kill them.

maybe i need to stop with the low magic item campaign

Nah - I was just thinking cold and sonic are a bit tougher than normal... I can build a fire to burn troll limbs, and/or buy acid... cold is hard to generate (apart from some level 0 cantrips, I dont think any other level 1,2 spells generate cold damage)... Sonic damage is even harder to whip up. Thats a tough monster to be sure. Metagaming Trolls hate fire isnt necessarily a bad thing - these guys are 5th+ level so they've heard a lot around the taproom and in their travels but adding a twist to a common monster also is good for flavour too.

They could have taken a hint or made a roll earlier as you said instead of charging in... after they were clearly struggling I'd have likely hinted again about the relative difference of the trolls and pretty much asked for Local Knowledge rolls at that point but different strokes for different folks. At the least they could have run a lot quicker in the big scheme of things - thats one thing they left a little late. Hewing off legs and then running would have been a good tactic for these guys.

Well tonight we introduce 4 new characters. A human druid who was brought up by dwarfs, a dwarven cleric and a human wizard and half orc fighter.
Well after there disastrous fight with the owlbear only 3 Heroes had survived the oracle of nature, the human rogue and the human sorcerer, they retreated and returned to their kingdom to lick their wounds on their way back they encounter 5 people engaged in combat with 2 ogres. Two were unconscious and so that left the druid, fighter, cleric and wizard alongside the oracle of nature to kill them.

They quickly dispatched the ogres and travelled to their kingdom to find the city riff with plague, having wounds to recover they stayed at the kingdom for the rest of the month. During there week of rule they had the plague spread and an assassination attempted on the human wizard. Well the attack come and i felt really bad about it because I would have killed the human wizard with very little effort. Instead i paralysed him and whispered in his ear “this is a warning”.

After the week of rule Jhod the cleric come up to the rulers and told them he had found out a way to rid the kingdom of this unstoppable disease. A tower of great evil lays to the south just past Margastone a city of a rival kingdom that built just east of the owlbears cave. They quickly find out that in Margastone the plague has spread thanks to the oracle of nature throwing diseased bodys into the river. The PCs venture south of the city and see a flaming hum on the horizon as they travel further south the hum becomes brighter and can even be seen in daylight.

Finally they crest a small hill to see a large stone tower looming with a flaming circle over the top of it. The PCs come to 2 massive stone steel reinforced doors and no way to open it. The oracles tattoo on her arm begins to blaze brightly and pushes on the door experimentally. The doors wing open and some stairs led down. The human druid wild shapes into an earth elemental and refuses to venture into the tower. So the others leave him and move into it, as the last person passes the entry way the doors close sealing them inside. The druid tries to earth glide into the building through the stone but hits solid stone, his ability to pass through stone doesn’t work.
The PCs inside find zombies and attack them, quickly dispatching them. The human druid’s player keep trying to glide in but very unsuccessful. Moving on they come to dark room for only which the oracle of nature could see due to her curse, no light source at all could penetrate the darkness and standing in front of them was a barded devil. He grinned at them and warned them not to advance any further. The Heroic PCs ignored his advice and the dwarf cleric hit him with a searing light. Not wishing a combat the devil disappeared.

The PCs wanted the party at full strength so they returned to the double doors and dragged the druid into the tower and continued forth. They come to a set of stairs leading up which come to a long room with 10 large obsidian mirrors on each side. The pcs unaware of the danger they were in walked down the corridor and were attacked by daemons that jumped out of the mirrors and pulled them into the mirrors. While in the mirrors they took 6d6 points of damage.

All but the wizard worked out that if you just run or move every round you won’t be hit as often but the wizard stayed at the back and cast lightning bolt trying to destroy them with no luck. With all the PCs down the other end of the room he had to run the gauntlet by himself and almost didn’t make it.
The other PCs came to his rescue and got him back to the group. A huge pair of stone door with steel reinforcement grinded open to a large room with a huge cropping of crystal and stuck inside the crystal was a Greater Evil One. Morgorg himself

Standing in front of the cropping of crystal was a human mage with flaming eyes and Morgorgs tattoo on his head. He welcomed them and offered them a chance to join him and his great god in becoming gods among men.
Since the human sorcerers and oracle of nature had read the magical note bout morgorg they were immediately controlled and were told to “kill anyone who attempts to interfere with morgorgs release. Well what an epic battle we had. If the players wanted to join morgorg that had to stab themselves. None of the other did at first.

The sorcerers turned on the party straight away and the druid run off managing to turn a small section of stone into mud and glide through. There he run down the stairs to the huge doors leading outside of the temple, using magic and abilities he managed to make a hole and glide out to find that the tower was in the ether.ear
While this was going on the dwarf cleric, half orc fighter and human wizard were left to fight the sorcerer and oracle of nature. While the rogue hid in the shadows waiting for his time to strike. The wizard dropped first then so did the cleric. Realising that i didn’t want a TPK the daemon they encounter before come to both the Cleric and wizard and healed them telling both that they now owe a de to him.

Now the rogue believes it time for him to attack and charged the evil mage... but rolled a one. He confirmed the crit fumble and draw a card, well he drew a card saying you stab yourself and its a possible critical. He rolled and confirmed the crit and stabbing his own tongue with a rapier, well since he stabbed himself he too becomes controlled by the evil mage.

The half orc fighter charged the evil mage but thanks to the oracle of nature casting Hold person, oracles curse and obscuring mist the fighter was so hampered to attack that he spent most of the night fending off attempts to make him stab himself. The dwarf druid was fighting the now controlled rogue and the sorcerer had knocked the wizard down to 0 HP then got the wizard to stab himself to turn him. But the devil from before had marked him and was unable to turn him. So the sorcerer just coup de grace the wizard by ripping out his throat.

The druid retuned back to the main room knowing there was no way out attacked the evil mage critting him, next round the dwarf druid charged and critted the evil mage. All this time Morgorg was pulling himself out of the crystal and was nearly free when they killed his avatar sending Morgorg back to his crystal prison. The three PCs that were controlled fell unconscious.
The tower began to collapse around them and they all run out making it out of the tower on to the plain they just left.
That was where we held it for the night

sorry about last week people i had to work

Well Tuesdays game was rather interesting. After successfully killing Morgorgs Avatar and keeping him imprisoned in the wall of crystal they returned home to find that the plague had lifted. Here they meet up with a Halfling cleric/paladin (the new character due to the human wizard dying last week because the human sorcerer coup de grace him) who was trying to combat the plague but now everyone was looking a lot healthier. So they focus their attention on kingdom building. Now i was hoping that they would spend a good year and move onto the next book, but alas no.

Since they had trouble with the evil trolls they come up with a plan to attack it but instead of doing themselves like they should they decided to bring their regiment of 100 light infantry. So they marched to the trolls cave. There they cast some new spell from the Advanced Players Book to give the sorcerer a high str bonus but only for carrying things (cant remember the spell something like Ankard or something like that) so the sorcerer cast fly on herself and carried all the players up to the top of the trolls cave.
There they descended all the time looking out for trolls. On not finding any they kept moving deeper into the cave and come to the ladder where they lost so many party members last time. The 100 men were all scattered throughout the cave. Looking down T shaped corridor they saw two large trolls and BANG they were in combat.

The trolls moved up but couldn’t attack all the PCs they were in a bottle neck so one of them used drag and pulled the oracle of nature out first since she was at point. The human sorcerers, cleric/paladin both cast fireball and hit both but the trolls past their saves. So i returned the favour in kind, thanks to a necklace of fireballs i gave the trolls they throw a big shiny red one and hit 3 players all of who failed their reflex save. (yeah yaaa for me) The sorcerer cast two pit spells during the battle limiting the battle field so much that the dwarf cleric was cornered and was beaten unconscious (thankfully he forgot he was a dwarf and got bonuses to AC against giant types). I was in a predicament do i kill the dwarf or not but that was made irrelevant when the rouge come tumbling in and critted.

The attack made the troll attack the rogue which made the troll fall down one of the pits. With the second trolls ally in a pit and 4 on one the other troll decided to leave. He overrun 3 players trying to get out of the chamber and yelled “grable crunick mulak” in gaint it means you can have the place im going home” to come face to face with a regiment of 100 men. The cleric Paladin attacked the troll and crit fumbled provoking an attack from the troll. Well i critted didn’t i and dropped him to unconscious in one hit. Now the first rank of 4 men attacked the troll but due to his high AC they couldn’t hit. For three rounds the troll splatted man after man in one hit.
Since the cleric/paladin was laying there for three rounds unconscious the troll grabbed his body for a packed lunch, then realising that the troll could use the packed lunch as a human (or halfing) shield he did. Row after row of infantry tried attacking the troll and by they time all the players were able to rally each other 25 light infantry had dropped from the trolls attacks. (that ¼ of the force from one opponent.)

They rendered the troll unconscious and couldn’t kill it. SO the sorcerer decided to tie it up with a rope of climbing and fly out of the cave into the air at about 260 odd feet where the troll awoke thanks to regeneration and easily broke the rope of climbing the sorcerer dropped the troll and did 76 points of damage. But still it lived. So the Paladin come up with the idea of strangling it with rope while it was unconscious (very unpaladin if you ask me).

So that where we left it for the night.

Sorry for the late post this close to Christmas and everything all go go go. Well we began where we left off last week and that’s dealing with the unconscious troll. Working out that they couldn’t kill it and after constant reinforcements to the paladin that he was a paladin they left him in the middle of the forest. The rogue left a note asking the troll to become an agent for him.

They returned to the capital and spent their time waiting til the end of the month so they can start there council meeting. While they waited the paladin forged a 1000 gp ring (nonmagical) for the price of 500gp to make ready for when he makes his own magic ring.

After the months end and no event due to a great roll from the players they again spent a month in town, the paladin made a ring of resist energy (fire) for the new half orc fighter. This took the entire month to make.
The start of the new month came and they did there council meeting and founded a new city (Elk Haven) they also joined up to taltzford a small town that has forged due to the players generosity.

Now the council leader is a duchess. Since they couldn’t kill the owlbear they decided to return to its lair and dispatch it with their army of 100 men of light infantry, It took two days to march to the lair and the entire army camped outside while the PCs went inside to kill it. Before casting a crap load of buff spells like Bless, prayer, Barkskin. Stuff like that.

They moved into the first camber and found several dead humanoids, (lol there old dead characters) well looted too. They moved into the main chamber where the owlbear was and found it empty, sensing a trap they continued on into the next chamber and come face to face with an owlbear...

A baby owlbear that was constantly hooting at the body of its mother. The PCs gave it some food and left it there and spotted the only other exit from this room which was a hole in the roof leading up. Using fly and ant haul the dwarf cleric with the highest str flew up to the hold carrying everyone.

Climbing through the hole they come to a large chamber and found spiders and ettins. The battle was over dam quick. Two fire balls which i passed if i hadn’t it was all over in a round and about 4 rounds of combat saw the spiders and ettins dead. I did manage to web the oracle of nature and sorceress and cut the hand off the rogue. One of the Ettin got a crit and with their maniples i drew severed hand. He lost his left hand. They pc looted the entire cave and picked up the rogues hand and left the cave. The PCs took the owlbear cub and i kept (hoot) to the players which was freaking out the sorceress so they stuffed it into a bag. (hoot) The owlbear started hooting at the sorceress through the sack.

They returned to their city with the army and bleed the month out. They did there council meeting and got a rather nasty surprise. A messenger arrived from the country south of them to warn them that if they invade their country again with a sizeable force then it will mean war. (hoot)
They all looked at me and said what??? Next to the owlbears hex is a city called Margastone and it was settled by another country months ago (real time). So i told them that they moved an army into there kingdom. I was going to be a idiot and just say right there army which is 200 men of light infantry marches on your city. That would have been a stupid thing to do, so i told them that they got a messenger saying what they had done was noticed and they the country south would like to remain peaceful but don’t do it again. (hoot)

The rogue who was the spymaster decided to using some diplomacy and go to the other kingdoms and talk with them. They exchange info the PCs now know that a country is building at the same rate they are.
Now they are talking about making a mad dash for all the terrain south of there current border. (hoot)

We will see what happens next week. We will do some council stuff to get them up and ready for the third book which i think will start in the new year. We will be taking some time off over Christmas and the new year.

Sorry people for the no post in the last 3 months my computer died. Ok this is where we are at. After my players finished book two we spend several weeks kingdom building. We built the kingdom up to around 50 odd hexes and now they have a total of 5 citys. Stags Rest (capital) Olegs Pride, Tatalford, halfnhalf and (can’t remember the last city). There we spent lots of time building the cities up to a strong point.

Due to a massive wrought we found I have restricted 1 major item being sold in each town per month. Otherwise you could easily just sell major magic items each month and make a huge amount of BP. My players didn’t argue with this rule they feel that its fair.

After the players have built up there kingdom i sent the rogue of the party a message from his family stating that his cousin would be visiting him in the next two months but they never arrived. The player being concerned ordered the other players to adventure with him to find out what happen to him. They travelled north east to Neskits crossing and found a small village there. After asking around the town they found out that the city of varnhold has not responded to any message sent to them.

The Rogues cousin was staying Varnhold at the time so they travelled south to investigate. They come to the town of Varnhold and found it to be deserted. All the houses were empty of people as if they had just stoped whatever they were doing and walked off. Cooking pots had burnt food in them, washing was half hung out and wood was half chopped. Coming to the centre of town they found an inn. Inside they found a large beast his half his skull caved in. Looking through the Inn they found the cousins room still containing his pack and equipment, also inside the Inn they found books and some treasure. Looting the Inn they continued to explore the town and found the brewery, they were attacked by a large feral boar which was quickly dispatched by a summon pit spell. Investigating further they were attacked by a swarm of ravens and crows.

The Sorcerers fireballs quickly took them out and found an array of dead horse carcass, with more signs of the town be deserted they saw the towns defences a stockade and a large church, they moved up to the large church and found it empty, apart from 2 copper coins in the poor box.( which the sorcerer stole)

Moving out into the town and moving towards the stockade they were attacked by a massive swarm of rats, more fireballs later the barn that the rats come out of was burning way littered with dead rats.

The players decided to rest before going up to the stockade. The next morning they moved up to find that the stockades gates where closed and barred, Using fly, ant haul and mule back cords the sorcerer flew everyone over the gate. They were soon attacked by ugly gnome like creatures called springins.

Killing off the 8 springins that were guarding the main courtyard they advanced on the stockades keep. Moving inside they were attacked through murder holes, The sorcerer decided to attack from the top and saw two springins up shotting at her. Using a fireball which killed the springins and also ignited the barrel of oil at the top exploding the roof. Soon the building was engulfed with flame and set of a second lot of oil that was going to be poured onto the players. The keep burnt to the ground but the fire was spreading. With fast work they managed to isolate the fire to the keep and its walls.

Only the springin leader survived the explosion and he surrendered to the paladin. Questioning the creature found out that they had found the town empty and claimed it as their own and began looting it.
With no more ideas of what to do they returned to their kingdom to rule and come up with some ideas
