And yes, other than the 2d10 for % rolls there are no NUMBERS on the special dice.
They have arcane symbols used to represent single, multiple, or no "successes" per face, and are designed (other than the force die) to be mirror opposites to generate the opposition for conflict resolutions.
If you do not have access to blank dice and the sticker sheet, cheap dice and the sticker sheet, or even a copier for the "dice symbol" page and a sheet of printable label paper, you also have some "conversion charts" in the book to reference the symbology as it occurs on classic numbered d6, d8, and d12 dice.

Counting the global announcement, we had 3 threads about this. So I merged the SWSE and General Banter threads with this global announcement. Please continue discussions here.
Thanks, Z.

I dunno if I'd got that far, especially as pertains to Dresden Files or Spirit of the Century, which use Fudge Dice and are pretty clear on reflecting how well or how poorly you did, generating a modifier of -4 to +4 depending on the roll, adding in your skill rank. WFRP3e, and by extension SW:EoE, seem more like "roll this kind of die and some of these dice, which are counteracted by the results on these other opposing dice" to say nothing of the whole "well, you rolled really good, but you still only partially succeed because these opposition dice did really well," so rather than "roll your dice then add your check modifier to get your result." Even One Ring's method is fairly simple when it comes to their dice, as you can easily use a standard d12 and d6's, treating 11's as "really bad result" and 12's as "really good result" on the first, and 6's as "really awesome result" on the later. Now I've not heard of anyone having any trouble at all in picking up how the dice work in FATE games (especially if they're using Fudge dice), but I from what I'm hearing on the recorded demo, that doesn't seem to be the case with SW:EoE, as it seemed Brev, Frobi, and even Chris were having some difficulty getting the hang of the dice system. I could imagine that if you're not using FFG's special dice, it'll be even steeper of a learning curve as you'd have to reference a chart to see what each die result means.

When I referred to the Fate similarities it seemed to me that the dice are there too tilt the story and not just for math. In Fate both a 0 and a 8 could succeed in repairing a car engine, but where as the roll of an 8 will keep the car running for years the 0 could mean it breaks down at the worst time. Plus the fudge dice are essentially both your positive and negative dice. Here's a pic of the sticker sheet starwarsdice by joshcupp,

From Malifer's picture (thanks for posting), that doesn't look like too many symbols to learn, and honestly, if anyone has actually played WFRP, you pick up the symbols very quickly - there are only 9 of them (7 dice types), and the icons do represent what they mean.
Not seeing an issue yet.

I still find it amazing that companies like Lucasarts and Games Workshop are still terrified of making core content available online. Heh picture this Lucasarts and Games Workshop go 50/50 to make a tabletop miniatures RPG that is open sourced with full online access to content. I challenge you to find somthing less likely to happen World Peace is more likely to occur than this

30 bucks + 11 bucks to ship? Wow...
Why couldn't they have made a black and white, flimsy paperback edition that would cost, say, 15 bucks? Seems to me, they could have given us the basics and left out a lot of the flash and glitter.

Here's the picture I posted Friday night after assembling the dice: Chessex had a LOT of colors of blank d6s, but none were powder blue, so I used gray instead for those. They had all the other dice in two colors, white and off-white, so only the white d12 was a blank die. The other dice were standard numbered d8s and d12s. The yellow, red and purple dice matched pretty well. The green was a bit off, but still somewhat close.

I had to stop listening to the podcast. Two separate conversations actively being engaged in was difficult to follow. I applaud you good folks for recording this first peek at the new Star Wars game, however, in order to maintain my sanity, I shall have to rely more on this forum for information about this game.
Thanks!

Sorry about the podcast quality, folks! I had the mic set to bi-directional (to pic up everyone at the table). And halfway through the game, this group comes up to ask about the game, and another demo dude starts explaining it in detail, VERY loudly... That's what you're hearing. Nothing for it, I'm afraid.

This is the kicker. And the reason this mechanic is different from anything else I've played. WEG d6, d20 systems, FATE... they all have the same core math mechanics. "Roll some dice, maybe add some bonuses or penalties to the total, then try to hit a target number." Edge doesn't do that. You're rolling dice for both your action and the defense against it all at once, and then cancelling them out. Donovan Morningfire wrote: Now I've not heard of anyone having any trouble at all in picking up how the dice work in FATE games (especially if they're using Fudge dice), but I from what I'm hearing on the recorded demo, that doesn't seem to be the case with SW:EoE, as it seemed Brev, Frobi, and even Chris were having some difficulty getting the hang of the dice system. Honestly, by the middle fo the encounter, we all had it down pat. And once you GET IT, it's quite easy to remember, and very intuitive. Your eyes start seeing the patterns, and you brain starts canceling out results on the roll before the GM can even speak... It's different, though.
