Engineering Report - October 19, 2010

Quote:
We are also happy to announce that the Foundry (our mission authoring toolset) will be moving into Beta in the next two weeks. This will be the first step in turning on authoring tools that allow players to create their own missions. At the start we'll be focused on stability and usability with a few guinea pigs who've shown their value as testers on TRIBBLE.

Once we've verified the publishing system is functional and stable, we'll open it up on TRIBBLE for everyone- most likely in the first half of November. We recognize that with a tool such as this, it will take some time of player interaction and feedback to iterate on the functionality of the authoring system. We expect the Foundry to stay in Beta even as we release Season 3. Even though the Foundry will remain in Beta, our goal is that everyone will be able to participate in testing these tools either on on TRIBBLE or HOLODECK as we gather your feedback and play the missions you are creating.

Go to the bottom of the page for screenies of the Foundry System. Looks very indepth, and much more robust than the COX version.

Me being me, I think that those of us that a Trek Geeks of the 66th should sit down and see if we can come up with a series for the Foundry. :)

Added Bonus:

Quote:
Upcoming C-Store Releases

•Vor'Cha Ship Costume Variant
•7 of 9 Jumpsuit Costume Unlock
•KDF LG (lvl 51) Ship Unlocks (B'Rel, Orion Cruiser, Gorn Science Vessel)
•Enterprise Bundle Pack: Uniform, Mirror Uniform, T-Pol Jumpsuit, NX Ship

Eoure will finally be able to have an Orion ship! :)

I sort of like that. SOMEONE needs to be doing Sci-research, I certainly don't see the Nausacaans doing it.

Yep, the Foundry looks like it could be some serious fun, I can see us doing a fun mission arc for the Gorn Resistance, some missions for Orions, plumbing the dpeths of Star Trek canon to do some fun things for the Fed side too.

There is a lot of creativity in the 66th, so it should be fun to see what we can do.

Well, as the saying goes, to understand recursion, one must understand recursion...

That being said, I can see doing even more mission arcs on Drezona (sp), it's a great untapped story line that could be made to work for both the Feds and the KDF, and the whole evil holograms running amuck could be great fun.

My grandmother wrote a story about a Vulcan artifact and Kirk's epxerience with it for a short story collection "Star Trek: The New Voyages". I plan on revisiting that too.

And yes, it will occur in the Maiewski System. Why do you ask?

Very cool indeed sir.

...now to add a 25th hour to the day so I can log some space time.

Klingon Empire – B'rel Bird-of-Prey Retrofit
Birds-of-Prey are the workhorses of the Empire, filling roles as scout ships, raiders or combat vessels. This retrofit of the famed B'rel Bird-of-Prey combines the small size and maneuverability of the B'rel with the most advanced weaponry available to the Empire. The B'rel Bird-of-Prey Retrofit has six weapon slots (4 fore, 2 aft), seats for four Bridge Officers (2 Lieutenant Universal, 1 Lieutenant Commander Universal and 1 Commander Universal) and space for eight console modifications (3 Tactical, 3 Engineering, 2 Science). It carries 30 crew and has an Enhanced Battle Cloak that will allow the ship to fire mines and torpedo weapons and use most Bridge Officer and Captain abilities while cloaked.

Klingon Empire – Varanus Fleet Support Vessel
This Gorn Hegemony design has been adapted for use by the Klingon Defense Force. These vessels do not have the firepower of Klingon starships, but their advanced technology makes them ideal for use by captains who want to support their allies in battle. The Varanus Fleet Support Vessel has six weapon slots (3 fore, 3 aft), seats for five Bridge Officers (Lieutenant Tactical, Ensign Engineering, Lieutenant Engineering, Lieutenant Commander Science and Commander Science) and space for eight console modifications (2 Tactical, 2 Engineering, 4 Science). It carries a crew of 750, has integral subsystem targeting and can launch a Repair Platformthat will deploy drones to assist it or allied ships.

Klingon Empire – Marauder Patrol Cruiser
The Orion Syndicate has made the design of their famed Marauder Patrol Cruiser available to the Klingon Defense Force. Marauders are made for quick raids, but have the strength to last through a pitched battle. The Marauder Patrol Cruiser has eight weapon slots (4 fore, 4 aft), seats for five Bridge Officers (Lieutenant Tactical, Lieutenant Commander Engineering, Commander Engineering, Ensign Science and Lieutenant Science) and space for eight console modifications (2 Tactical, 4 Engineering, 2 Science). It carries 800 crew members. The Syndicate takes great care to protect Marauders, so when one of these vessels falls below 25 percent of its maximum hull strength a wing of Orion Interceptor Fighters will come to assist it. These fighters will drop mines, and then move to disable subsystems and capture crew from enemy ships, giving the Marauder cover for a safe escape.

Finally, a proper science ship for the KDF, but no word on the Nausicaan tactical ship yet.

I like it when I get to build and create things.
Okay, okay. it's the decorating part I just want to spend hours making everything completely perfect and lovely (or horrific, depending) BUT
uh. I. um. am a star trek noob? I don't know stories :( I don't know information to use to make stories :(
I don't have mini-plots running around in my head about all the races and space sectors and ship types and cool science things .. I don't even know all the races and space sectors and ship types and cool science things.

I want to play builder but, I don't think I can come up with the storyline for it.
:( :(

So, suggestions? :)

Este --

My suggestion is that you team up with someone with whom you can work with creatively to help fill out the narrative.

A very good idea here; ask around the fleet and see if someone will help you with a story to use your maps in.
